Taxation IS theft

Our Queen in her wisdom has dissolved the loathsome band of TAX COLLECTORS, leeches in human form who prey upon their fellow man. DELEGATES, I beseech you to petition her to make this state of affairs PERMANENT. If the crown is not to tyrannize its subjects, let no coin pass into its hands that is not given willingly, and let thus our proud country be forever SECURE in its foundation of GOODNESS.

I ask not, of course, for the Queen to interfere with the disparate arrangements of the many Chelish realms, whose rulers and subjects have come to their own accords on the matter of dues. To squash that diversity into uniformity would be premature. This narrow proposal is for the QUEEN and CROWN in particular. Neither do I ask for the end of those taxes that are voluntary already; let us continue to charge tolls on merchants who pass through Aroden's Arch, as they could take other routes at their choosing.

I foresee two FOOLISH objections to this most perfect and GOOD plan. First, that the crown has expenses that must be paid, and second, that the remaining taxes and the benevolence of the crown's subjects will not rise to meet those objections. Dear reader, solve one problem with the other! Let the Crown establish such monopolies, positions, titles, and policies that auctioning them off will raise the funds necessary to prosecute the state's goals. If the state cannot find the buyers to fund some goal, what right has it to choose for Chelaxians that they will pay for it, besides TYRANNY most MANIFEST?

Jaume brings a copy of this one to church and manages a much livelier class than usual discussing whether it would work or not and why that might be. He isn't sure exactly why people like that more than actuarial calculations but it is actually also slightly less work to prep, so it's an improvement all around, the best kind of improvement.
