Baron Llúcian Tomàs Toset de Tona (at the time de Dorve) did not want to fight in the Chelish Civil War. Neither really did most of his neighbors. However the alternative was.... what? There was no trusted king with the clear authority to settle disputes, no reason to believe that your neighbor's soldiers were being trained just for defense. Even your own vassals could hardly be trusted when anyone could promise to help them through the winter in return for their allegiance.

When he was 16 he sat across from another baron, trying to think of a way out of the fight they seemed to be heading towards. He'd prayed for a way to actually communicate with his adversary, for a path to establish trust and find a compromise better than war. Abadar had answered by clericing Llúcian, and with His Truthtelling they had managed to find their way to peace.

He'd done his best to build a coalition from there, with moderate success. At 26 he was optimistic when he attended what he thought was a meeting about a promising marriage proposal only to be met by fire and the Thrunes.

The world Llúcian was brought back to was in many ways worse off. Not only could rival nobles not trust each other but neither could families. His people would listen to him but only because they were terrified of what he would do. Which really was understandable considering what the man he'd been resurrected to replace had done.

And yet. There was going to be a convention of people from across Cheliax to draft a way to do something better than what had been done before. And maybe if they got it right they could find a way to avoid the next Civil War. Ultimately that's what Abadar is about according to Llúcian - finding agreements that could make everyone better off than the alternative.

Also Llúcian never did find himself a wife. Maybe the convention will be a good place to do that too.
