"Yeah," she agrees with a nod as she starts toward the nearest ascent into the ropes that stretch along the outer ring, and then swings her way toward their apartment building. "Might pick up a long gun too, depending on the combat expectations. Rubes'll explode if we can find a good reason to use a sniper rifle, but pistols will be good at good mix of combat ranges."

"Well, sniper rifles don't work for exploration missions but if you have a big enough group they can be good for some assault missions once you get past the gate breach or if you're flying a stealth ship to get there."

"Fuckin' sweet. I can feel her excitement starting to bubble up already. Well, we'll have to train on both."

It's not far to their building, and they swing into the landing and then start down toward their apartment.

Emily will happily follow along. "Are you one of the people happy about Veria picking clothes for you or weirded out or both? I feel like it's mostly girls that get weirded out because of the lingerie most of us get."

"Mostly happy about it. She's got good taste," Hailey jokes. "Although a big part of it is we spent a lot of time talking through the options and design stuff with her."

"That would do it. Veria's nice to talk to. She was really helpful whenever we ran into bugs and such. Even if sometimes she was just telling us that something wasn't a bug when we thought it might be."

"She really seems like a sweetie, yeah." Is there a good rack somewhere in the apartment to stash the sword? If not, it's going on a table for now. "So yeah, this is our place. Aimed for close to the ropes, for added fun."

Conveniently, there are hooks on the side of their wardrobe that seem suited for the purpose.

"That makes sense, I claimed one closer in to have an excuse to ride the ziplines more."

Onto the hooks goes the sword. "Okay, that's that. Feel free to message us, or come find us here, or whatever. For now, though, the range!" And back out they go onto the ropes.

She seems to have made a friend. This is great. "I will, lots of things are better with partners." And onto the range. It's a relatively quick trip, especially now that she doesn't need to deal with the weight of her sword.

She looks around for someone instructive and official looking, grinning eagerly. Range time, fucking sweet.

The entry area seems to have a variety of guns on display behind a counter and inside glass cabinets along the wall. A dark skinned woman is waiting behind the desk. "Hello there, I haven't seen either of you before. I'm Tracey. Do you have firearms experience or are you here to try them out for the first time?"

"Limited. Was decent with an old bolt-action twenty-two six years ago, but haven't picked one up since, and don't have experience with pistols or heavier rifles, which are what I'm looking to use today."

"I have a license on file, I'm not instructor certified though."

"Do you want to take the class with your friend as a refresher or just get started while they're doing that?"

She shrugs then smiles at Hailey. "What do you think?"

She smiles and shrugs. "Company's nice, but it's up to you. Depends on whether you think you'd get something out of it."

"I'll join you. It's been a while since I had a formal refresher."

"Okay, then both of you can go through the door on the left and downstairs, the staff down there will know to expect you."

"Thanks." Down they go, Hailey's left hand drumming eagerly against her thigh.

The space below is a lot larger than on the surface. There's what a large number of what look like shooting lanes along the long back wall a couple are in use but she can't hear anything, apparently there's magic for that. Off to the left there are more doors with the words 'Vision Rooms' written above them. To the right there's a large collection of guns and a couple additional doors.

In the center there's a man and a woman behind another desk. "Hello there," calls the woman, "I'm Francine. Tracey said one of you needed the licensing class and the other was gonna retake it for practice and solidarity?"

"That's the plan. I'm the former, Emily here's the latter."

"Great, so the first bit of the class is the rules of the range, your gun should be unloaded and safed until you're in a firing lane, a vision room, or an arena, and it should be unloaded and safed again before you leave either of those. If you don't know what those words mean don't worry we'll cover the precise meaning for a few different weapons later on. Further, you should always treat guns as loaded even if you just checked them, keep your finger off the trigger and keep them pointed towards the ground and absolutely not at a person. Did you understand all that? Do you have any questions?"

She shakes her head sharply, suddenly all business. None of this is new to her, she and her headmates have been gun-obsessed to a degree that includes gun safety for years, but every word is listened to in case there's something new, and to burn the reminder in again. "Understood," she replies crisply.
