"I -" She taps her mouth again, spreads her hands. Talk to him, he speaks the language.

"You don't have to follow Melkor's orders?"

"I told you, Melkor hasn't any orders!"

"And I told you what they were!"

"Those aren't any likelier than anything else to be Melkor's orders."

She giggles. "That'd work, yes."

Kiri giggles too. Okay.

And now New Orc cannot identify Elves or hold actionably confident opinions about Melkor.

"This is sort of terrifying," she says. "I prefer it to being dead but you are really scary."

"Yes," sighs Kiri. "I think it's terrifying too but I prefer it to you being dead."

"Can all humans do that? Also you should make him not be in pain."

"Not all humans can do that. And yes I should." She does. "There."

"The Elves are still going to kill us, unless you stop them."

"They don't hate you," Kiri reiterates. "They brought you to me so I could -" handwave "be scary so they don't have to kill you."

"...and they're not going to kill us anyway? What about the ones who don't know you were scary?"

"The Elves who brought you know I'm scary. Other Elves..." Uncertain gesture.

"There are lots of Elves and most of them will kill us."

Kiri sighs. I've revised both these two, if somebody wants to come close the communication gap. They're worried that Elves who do not know how scary I am and what I have done will kill them anyway.

I can try to learn their language? That's a valid concern. I don't know who else lives here but I'm not their King.

I've got a few words but only the ones they've happened to think, and your mindreading is much politer and more bidirectional than mine, it seems like my editing powers are limited pretty much only by my own timidity but I don't know what would happen if I tried to use them communicatively and there's an alternative...

Kiri steps out of range of the orcs.

Means we'll wrap the war up faster and get you home. Power makes people more able to be good, if they're good. 

I know. I do think this was better than killing them. I didn't even make any mistakes, just - it's not wholly comfortable.
