"You mean they don't swear to?"

"They don't swear to."

"So then they have a choice and they do it anyway. They could just go home, they have a choice, they don't have to attack us."

"You don't have a choice."

"We don't."

"I hate that."

"So tell them to go away. Then there's no fighting."

"I hate that you don't have a choice, anyway."

"We'd hate them even if we had a choice, they kill us."

"They didn't kill you," Kiri points out. "They brought me."

"So they can kill me slower, later. That's what Elves do. They're evil. All of them."

Headshake. "They brought me. I -" She taps herself on the head. "I understand. Them, you."

"They kill us. They kill children. They kill everyone they see."

This isn't getting anywhere fast.

The orc isn't thinking about being in pain but maybe it's just really accustomed? Kiri goes looking.

The orc is, in fact, in pain, and regards this as a normal fact of life. 

Well, it is going to stop now.

The orc feels - numb. All over. It is weird. It is - sort of good, but very very weird. The orc curls up in a ball because it can't feel its limbs.

...Kiri doesn't have the vocabulary to say anything reassuring. She waits.

"Did you do that?"

"Yes."

"What did you do? Did you do it on purpose? Why?"

"I did it on purpose - I don't have -" She taps her mouth again.

"You are very strange. I - that was good. I think. I am not used to it but I think I'll think it was good once I am. Why?"

"I thought it was good," she says, "and I don't hate you."
