The multiverse is a big place.

Well, technically, it's not. It's the superset of all places, all universes, and all Earths contained within those universes. These Earths are variations on a theme, usually given a convenient number on the multiversal map. If you get lost, asking someone whether Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse is the most popular cartoon character works surprisingly well for orienting yourself. It's like turning on a radio and listening for the station identification; K means west of the Mississippi and W means east of the Mississippi.

Of course, some of them don't have either surprisingly recurring character. Some of them don't have a United States that named radio stations just so. Some of them even branch off so greatly from the proverbial Everett tree that it's not worth calling them "Earths" anymore. Dath ilans, Firstplanets, Greens, etc. But they're still worlds that are recognizable by a 24-hour day, an 8766-hour year, and both of those determined by how they orbit a G2V type star. And of course, they have their own branches, e.g. dath ilan-0, dath ilan-1...

One of those branches off the beaten paths is the Chorotopos branch. Along one axis, the root of this branch is the world known as Chorotopos. While most universes have magic-users or super-heroes, the physics of Chrotopos cannot support them. Carissa Sevar would find her items worthless and her spell slots to not be merely empty, but gone. Clark Kent would find no photonucleic effect to reinforce his atoms.

Neighboring universes contain the parallel worlds Chorotopos-Α and Chorotopos-Β. Chorotopos-Α also lacks magic-users and super-heroes. However, it is capable of supporting extraversal visitors' unusual abilities to a limited extent. Sevar would find her items still worked as long as they held a charge and her spell slots full until she used them. Kent would find his powers slowly fading, even under a yellow sun. Chorotopos-Β is fully capable of supporting magic-users and super-heroes; the yellow sun over Chorotopos would maintain Kent's abilities, though magic-users like Sevar may encounter some difficulties in fully utilizing the ambient mana.

Millennia ago, the first republic was formed from a naval alliance of philosopher-kings. Over time, more territory was incorporated into the alliance and it was federalized into the first republic. Eventually the republic fell and the Choronym Empire was born. The empire lasted over a thousand years, expanding and hegemonizing two continents' worth of territory before the last emperor was overthrown in absentia. (It turns out if the emperor decides to take a fishing trip and not come back while continuing to draw a salary, and then his successor does the same thing, the senate has very few responses available to it.)

The Second Choronym Republic is the successor state to the Choronym Empire. A confederal representative democracy, the Republic has united roughly a third of the world under the purple flag, a common language, and Foundational Document One. Delegates from the Far East and Far West occupy observer positions on the high council in the hopes that their nations will join. Its second industrial revolution is underway, sparking a new era of innovation and progress!
