The most insightful review I've read of this webnovel said that its characters were arranged like puppets, with no internal momentum to their actions. It's not exactly that they were two-dimensional, but that they'd choose to move the plot along instead of react organically to the world. I kind of like the ~inevitable fate aesthetic, it adds flavor to late-game spoilers, but it is clumsy writing.
