Halfway People — river mermaids of Canada and most of the United States — name all twin-tailed mermaids "Menanna" after a twin-tailed fish woman in folklore. They are bestowed with positions of leadership and ambassadorship, and so each one is assigned a part of the country to preside over. Their designated location is how they are distinguished from each other when necessary.
