An invitation to a party appears on various university billboards inviting people to the Kappa Alpha greek house located in the mostly finished Castle Commonwealth mall on the edge of town. The notice instructs people to follow the access road at 67 Lost Nation drive and enter through the back door and promises that signs will be posted to guide people to the party itself.
"My best guess is that when we came here something teleported a chip into our brains. Failing that, I really have no idea."
"The things I figure out don't always make sense Claire. People can call me an idiot savant or a genius all they want but it doesn't mean there's a real explanation in those words."
"Of course, just because something might be magic doesn't mean you stop trying to understand it. It's just people say things to make the spectre of magic go away that don't really explain anything."
If there is an implant it must be a very subtle one. There's nothing in either of their brains that looks any different from the surrounding tissue. "Well either there's no implant, it's brilliantly disguised, it's very tiny or the scan is filtering it out."
"Unless you build your own MRI machine from scratch you can't test that last one. Maybe there's a way to do a higher-resolution scan, that would probably let you eliminate the brilliant disguise or really tiny hypothesis."
"I'll look in the encyclopedia for any mentions of higher-resolution scans for telepathy." She busies herself doing that.
"So I was looking for anything I could find that might be related, there are higher resolution scans we can run. There are vague references to treating some mental illnesses with telepathy though they also referenced the color red it was confusing."
"Yeah, I'm not sure how comfortable I am with the idea, but it makes a certain degree of sense. Therapy turned up to 11."
Emily walks over and hugs Claire. "It's not worth worrying about for the moment. We'll have time to figure it out."
