The Valar announce that they've done as much as they can in Singularity (they can't bring back peoples' babies in that critical period either, but they can get them earlier versions) and are setting up portals between there and Sanity as soon as they are confident they've cleaned up the plague. A bunch of Elf architects have this wild idea for a fivedimensional city where alternating intersections are interdimensional portals between various Valinors and they get eagerly to setting it up.
"And daeva have basically human-range psychology and hobbies and so on and prefer the pronouns associated with their appearance in the case of every single one I've talked to and you could give the demons in Ganymede the option to select a preferred pronoun instead of being called 'it'."
"Clearly not. But Minor's not going to show up to be tried by people who call him 'it' and keep him silenced so he can't correct them."
"When you have just courts other people are less motivated to help their loved ones evade it. When you have blindingly incompetent courts that do not recognize the personhood of their defendants or offer them humane conditions, you get people who don't want to subject their little brother to that."
"Well, we'd encourage Minor to turn himself in if we thought you guys were competent enough to solve an eight-piece plastic puzzle and decent enough to let a fourteen-year-old attend school or write home or request to be called by his name."
"Oh, we've said all this to them, too. I do think people are at least a little bit accountable for the work they enthusiastically defend on social media."
"If I found myself getting paychecks from your employers somehow I'd resign immediately. But I'm not the keeper of your conscience. And Timothy'd stay, try to make them better."
"If I quit whatever ability I have to get them to listen to me evaporates and you have to convince somebody else to come out on their lunch break to entertain your hypothesis."
"Point taken but you do realize that that is indicative of a system not very good at responding to evidence, right?"
"The forensics is usually really good and I don't know what happened and you can stop being a twit about it any time now."
"Kid wanted me to kill him. And I can't go back to Hell and get a nicer one until my lawyer figures out how to settle the case in absentia for me."
" - I mean, I asked him why he wanted to die, said there were interdimensional magic solutions if he was clinically depressed or something, and if he was in a bad home situation I could just take him to another dimension and give him a couple billion to start over with, and if he still felt that way about it in six months I'd do it but it's kind of amazing what living in a safe environment with cool people your age can do, and it's not irreversible like becoming a daeva is, and he'll get to spend forever as a daeva anyway. And he said sure he'd try it so he's in another dimension with a ton of money now and my brother's checking in on him to make sure he's happy and making friends and stuff and hopefully he'll be okay but if in six months he wants to die I'll do it, I gave my word."
