When Hyacinth comes home to her new apartment for the first time after a long day at university, it's to the sight of moving bots just finishing dropping off the last of her stuff and moving furniture into place. The full-immersion VR pod her parents gave her is safely hooked up in the pod room, her bed is in her bedroom, she has chairs and a desk and some bookshelves. Clothes are mostly still in boxes, waiting to be hung up in the closet. Holovid and a cozy chair occupy the living room. She doesn't have any food in the small kitchen yet.
Hyacinth re-equips her leather armor and her staff and pops up to give Hailey a firm hug.
"Alright," she says. "I'm feeling charged. Let's go!"
"Hell yeah." She hugs Sin back, then walks out the front door with a smirk on her face.
Their surroundings are calm. A few birds are chirping. It's a pleasant afternoon.
Hailey pushes a couple buttons in her menu, and then the house vanishes back into her inventory. She starts down the eastern road to Cordova.
"So, how'd you get into coloring?"
"Uh, my psych got me into it, actually. She had a bunch of coloring pages in the waiting room of her practice and I tried one and then I was hooked. ADD's like that sometimes."
"Cute! We've never tried it. Maybe we should. Sable might dig it in her... smoller moods."
"Adorable," she replies with a smirk, and kisses Sin's cheek. "Well, maybe sometimes y'all can color together, and maybe sometimes y'all can trade off who's the smol and who's taking care of the smol."
Hailey smiles and hip-bumps Sin as they walk. "Pretty fuckin' glad we met you. A+ job on whoever meddled to drop you on us when you first entered the realm."
Hyacinth inclines her staff. "Here's to May." She "clinks" it against Hailey's imaginary glass and keeps walking.
Hailey hums thoughtfully after a moment. "Wonder if there's a way to link our design suite to the house, to make it easy to go back and forth, or any of our other stand-alone environments. Neo would certainly appreciate easier access to her projects."
"That's a good question. Something to look into later. If I could install my hand-gesture controls..."
"Might be able to at least get your gesture controls in the menu? Could be an accessibility feature?"
"It's more of a ludic thing, really. I wanted to be able to use 'magic' with the right gestures. I bet there's a system for that in CORA, but it'll probably take skill points to unlock."
"Ah, gotcha. Yeah, probably buried in an ability tree somewhere. Could go digging when we stop for the night."
"Yeah, maybe. But I have a general sense of where I'm going now, so I feel less pressed. There's hundreds of levels to gain."
"One fight at a time and all that shit," Hailey replies with a calm smile. "Wonder what Cordova's like."
And so they continue to walk into the evening, enjoying the trees and the fresh air and each other's company.
It's really nice to share time with her girlfriend. Girlfriends. Hmm. Neither word quite works. Girlfriend slash ess.
Whatever they want to label it, it is very nice. After a bit of looking around to find a good spot, Hailey flicks her fingers through the menu, and then the house appears. "Time for supper, I think."
