When Hyacinth comes home to her new apartment for the first time after a long day at university, it's to the sight of moving bots just finishing dropping off the last of her stuff and moving furniture into place. The full-immersion VR pod her parents gave her is safely hooked up in the pod room, her bed is in her bedroom, she has chairs and a desk and some bookshelves. Clothes are mostly still in boxes, waiting to be hung up in the closet. Holovid and a cozy chair occupy the living room. She doesn't have any food in the small kitchen yet.
"Yeah. Let's keep an eye out and do our best."
Hyacinth sighs softly, and keeps on going.
Maya shifts in over the course of the afternoon, walking contentedly alongside Hyacinth. Nothing interrupts them, either monster or bandit, until late in the afternoon a message comes in.
Evening, you two&. How's your day going? I've just settled in from a long day's questing - putting down corrupted creatures, mostly - and I've got some time to kill.
Doing alright. Mostly it's been a nice hike today, if a bit of a tiring one.
She nudges Maya. "Did you get Amaranthine's message just now?"
"Oh! Yes, we did. Just a moment."
Indeed. We are having a relatively peaceful trip so far. Interesting to see the corrupted animals have spread all the way to you, however. That suggests concerning things about whoever or whatever is behind them. Another day and a half to Cordova.
Glad to hear things are going alright for you all. I've been traveling too, though perhaps a bit slower than you since I'm questing along the way. Hope to see you soon.
Looking forward to it.
"Well. It sounds like they are having an interesting time on the trip. The corrupted animals are concerning."
"Indeed. I wonder if it is related somehow. That almost seems like too much of a coincidence, however. What could they even get out of such a scheme?"
She shakes her head. "No, I doubt it, the more I think about it."
Maya squeezes Sin softly as they walk, hugging her warmly to her side. "Whatever the case may be, we will face it together, darling."
Then she hums thoughtfully. "Perhaps we are closer to an arcane trickster or a hexblade? Unsure."
"Yeah, that makes sense."
Hyacinth smiles and walks on with Maya, snuggled in close. There's a long way to go and not much to do, but Maya's company is nice. And there are sights to see, now and then; pretty trees, fallen logs, hills and dells. So much.
Eventually, it's too dark to see any more pretty vistas, and the girls come to a stop. "That river valley we passed by earlier really was something, wasn't it?" Sable asks as she sets down their home.
"Yeah. I liked the pebble beach by the river's edge. Shame we couldn't stop there for longer, but we do have business."
She looks down at herself. "I've always loved discovering virtual worlds. They're so much prettier and more put together than reality. They feel... Lived in, in a way the real world often doesn't. I hope you get what I mean."
She nods and smiles, opening the door and holding it for Hyacinth. "Yeah. There's more of a feeling of... intent, I guess, like the spaces were meant for someone to find them eventually."
"Now, that's not to knock on the physical world, either. Some places are just beautiful the way they are by - chance, or a happenstance of topography. And that's wonderful too. Seeing something that feels right by sheer luck of human aesthetics feels... right. You wonder at the chance. I get that feeling sometimes too with procedurally generated places. I wonder which we've seen so far? Could be either."
She steps inside and flops down on the couch in the sitting area, resting her weary limbs. "Whew. Long walk. Funny that I feel tired, but I think I like it. It feels... more real."
She nods and flops down next to Sin as she closes the door behind them, then runs her hands softly through the foxgirl's hair. "Yeah, me too. It feels more like we're actually going places, like we're really doing this."
Hyacinth shivers and closes her eyes as Sable's hands slip over her delicate ears, and then smiles back at her. "More real than reality, in a way."
She leans in, and gently kisses Sable's lips.
Sable sighs tenderly and pulls Sin closer, savoring the contact and lingering in the softness, kissing her again.
And from there, Hibiscus slips into front and starts kissing a little more deeply...
This could well turn into making out, if Sable's amicable to that.
Well, that seems like a plan Sable can get on board with. She pulls Hibiscus up onto her lap, straddling her waist, and presses into her body, kissing deeper and burying her hands in her hair.
That is absolutely fine with Hibiscus, who's quite enjoying being petted and touched and teased while she's in front for once. She embraces Sable close and grinds in a little against her, basking in the attention, feeling very, very adored thanks to all the touches and Sable's firm embrace.
"You're pretty good at this." She grins. "Practice or just natural talent?"
