Is this far enough?

It would be safer for you to stand at twice that distance! No, three times, just to be sure.

Then Eodred will wait almost 250 feet away while this invisible wizard opens the door.

Magic missile.

Treachery!

Quickened magic missile.

Eodred will await his judgement in the River of Souls.

Togomor chuckles to himself as he opens the door and enters his cliffside bolthole - it isn't trapped, although it is warded against divinations.

That went rather well, he thinks.

It's even colder inside; the wizard's breath steams like a kettle. He sets a light; darkvision can't see color. He dismisses his invisibility to better see his hands.

There is a circle on the floor, surrounded by runes and geometric patters, drawn in chalk and silver.

Lesser planar binding.

Eodred's soul is Called into the circle.

He falls weeping to his knees.

"Thank you... thank you."

Togomor draws a knife and steps into the circle. He grabs Eodred by the hair and stabs him repeatedly while the 2HD Outsider beats helplessly against the wizard's mage armor.

Even an eighth-circle bloatmage will conserve spell slots when it's convenient.

Wizards can't be allowed to use planar binding on dead VIPs and STAB them.

How would anyone SURVIVE long enough to be RAISED from the DEAD?

It's been established in other threads that you can cast spells like scrying and planar binding on dead petitioners using the names they had in life.

It's been established in other threads that the dead can be RAISED from the dead with the spell RAISE DEAD, which they could NOT be if wizards instead cast planar binding and STAB them!

And it is not RULES LEGAL.

Paizo OUTLAWED this in PLANAR ADVENTURES.

Souls become PETITIONERS when Pharasma sorts them to an afterlife plane, after which point they cannot be RAISED. And BEFORE Judgement, souls are IMMUNE TO ALL MAGIC and CANNOT BE HARMED IN ANY WAY.

I've never read Planar Adventures. It was published after I stopped tracking new releases.

READ PLANAR ADVENTURES.

Okay, now I've read Planar Adventures.

Otolmens, we can't use this stuff. It's inconsistent with too much material that Paizo printed elsewhere, including but not limited to the lore for daemons, the lore for night hags, and the writeup of petitioners from Bestiary 2, not to mention the threads that I'm writing fanfiction of, not to mention the setting's verisimilitude, not to mention the learnable rhythm of the game system.

I don't want to nail down at this moment exactly how the cosmology in this continuity differs from Paizo's, or from Paizo's post-Planar Adventures, or from other glowfic, but if you think that stabbing petitioners is too big of an exploit, I'll tell Togomor that there's some reason why it doesn't work and that if he wants to keep Eodred from being raised from the dead he'll need to come up with something else.

This is ACCEPTABLE.

The teleport placed them, midair, near a sheer cliff-face high in the snowy Mindspins. It is starkly beautiful, and the cold does not bother him.

There's a shelter built into the cliff, shaped from the stone. Eodred moves towards it.

"Eodred Arabasti."

...Yes?
