An invitation for a party put on by the Kappa Alpha frat house appears on various university bulletin boards. It's slated to start at 6pm on Saturday with a different address in each city. Each leading to a recently or not-officially opened building.
Zahn pulls a handful of slips of paper out of his pocket. "I collected one of each. I was vaguely wondering if they were random or some kind of coded message."
"Well maybe, neither of us have heard the original song so it's hard to know precisely, but the title fits."
"If we all used the same code, the other ones might lead to another floor in the same building...although we're clearly not relying on normal physics here."
"I suppose that's possible, some orderings of the colors would put red on the top floor. I'm finished eating. If the two of you are also done we can start exploring."
"Yeah, the food was really good, but I've had my fill. I want to be doing something."
Zahn chuckles slightly. "Sure why not." He sets off down the hall and begins to follow the long sloping path. The next door they come to opens to reveal a lush greenhouse lit from above in the entryway transitioning to glass as it stretches out to the full length. Towards the entrance there are bins with tops on them that look similar to the kitchen cabinets. "Well this is interesting. I'm inclined to see this as a sign our abductors aren't trying to starve us."
"It's a very nice gingerbread house."
Are there any plants that look unfamiliar? Biology isn't exactly his specialty, but he has a basic grounding.
Some of the plants look pretty exotic, but nothing really goes beyond the bounds of what he's familiar with Earth plants looking like. There are things he can't recognize though, like that plant with the leaves the size of dinner plates or that one with the small orange berries.
"We should identify what we can."
He examines the berries. He avoids touching the plant.
It's a big greenhouse, they'll find corn, strawberries, rhubarb, celery, asparagus, leaks, scallions, carrots, potatoes, and many more.
"This looks good. Maybe the goal is to see how we handle division of labor. Who can cook?"
"I can some, but mostly camping type stuff, I don't have any fancy recipes memorized."
"I'm not a cook, I can heat up packaged meals and such but I've never known my way around a kitchen."
"Are there any other skills we really need? Who can handle a fight, who can run faster, who knows first aid. I know first aid, if it comes up, and I have a fairly good memory, though that's less obviously useful."
"I can fight, both unarmed and with the knives I carry. Zahn goes camping for vacations, so if we find some camping equipment he can use it."
Maddie arrives in an empty lobby.
She picks up the black slip of paper and tries the elevator.
She's treated to a minute long elevator ride filled afflicted with a terrible headache and vertigo before finding herself in an empty lounge.
This is a particularly well-targeted practical joke.
She pockets the slip and looks around.
Maddie's lounge has black trim, and luxurious couches. There's a counter dividing the lounge from a kitchen opposite the wall the elevator is on and a buffet to her right on exiting. The only exit in evidence is at the back of the kitchen. The windows reveal an overcast sky and a large pool below, on one side with a volleyball court on the other.
