"Sounds like it'll be as much a favor for me as you."

"Works out well then!" she chirps. "I like you, so doing favors for you is good."

"Why, thank you!"

"You're welcome!!"

And on to Kirkwall. The inland approach is nicer than the harbor, in that the giant horrifically detailed metal statues of slaves in agonizing pain only flank the gate rather than keeping watch at regular intervals down the entire entrance road.

There's something very fascinating about all the statues of people in horrible agonizing pain, though...

Maybe...

Does Kirkwall really torture people like that?

Back when it was a Tevinter slave colony hundreds of years ago, it did. Not anymore.

So they just kept the art up?

The statues were fixed in place with blood magic. Nigh-impossible to remove using other methods, and the Chantry doesn't condone the use of blood magic for any reason.

Well, keeping the art's good. It's pretty.

Most people try not to look at it, honestly.

Most people have no taste!

Maybe so.

Hawke knows the guard on duty at the gate, so she'll be let through with a minimum of fuss. And a silver dropped in his palms gets him to wave the rest of the party through as well.

Where are they staying tonight?

Well. Hawke and her mother (and Hawke's dog) are currently living with Hawke's uncle. His apartment has three rooms and no spare beds, so that's not so much an option, much as she'd like to offer to put them up. They could get a couple rooms at a tavern, the Hanged Man usually has some to let and isn't far from where she lives.

Well Wyld-sensei could share Hawke's bed, and the genin could sleep in the living room... Like a sleepover!

Hawke is already sharing a bed with her mother. And the dog.

...So there's only two beds?

It is not a big apartment. And Gamlen, Hawke's uncle, is not a rich man.

Okay. They can get rooms somewhere else - and then Hawke can stay with them! Maybe with her doggy, too. Depends on if it's a nice doggy.

Ser Paws is the best dog. Hawke usually has him on guard duty for her mother, he keeps her safe in Kirkwall.

Maybe they shouldn't take him then... But Hisame wants to meet him!

That can be arranged.
