Underneath Mount Ebott is a surprisingly large cavern complex. On the western edge, there's a ruined town built from purple brick. On the western edge of that, sunlight from cracks far above illuminates a patch of golden flowers, surrounded by pillars.
Eventually Toriel knocks on his door again.
"I've given out the snails. Shall we get the rest of the books into your room?"
"Thank you ma'am. Should I be planning to copy them or are they of less use to you than would be the paper and ink?"
"These are old used textbooks. They're not that expensive. Also, some of them use color ink. I think that if I tried to get you enough ink and paper and binders for you to make copies, it wouldn't be much of a savings and it could be a very messy process."
"Then I will simply have them ready in the event the archmages arrive. Thank you very much." Books go on shelf and if necessary in neat floor stacks.
The day passes. Toriel encourages Blai to join her for meals at the dining table and shows him how to wash dishes at her sink afterwards, since he seems to want to make himself useful. When it gets late, she shows him how to use light switches and offers him a toothbrush.
His teeth are in amazing shape considering how unfamiliar the toothbrush is but he acquiesces to its use.
He goes to bed, wakes with the dawn above the monsters' prison, and prays for spells.
He purifies all the Created food and sits down with Toriel for breakfast.
"The question of the absorbed souls and destroying humanity should another be obtained seems crucial to me," he says. "I have only your word to go on, but if your statements are accurate I cannot safely corroborate with anyone else. For this reason I prepared a truth spell this morning."
"It creates an area in which deceit is impossible, unless you resist the spell successfully. I don't have any idea how good you are at resisting spells; do you?"
"Well, you can also permit the spell to land, though unfortunately having done so is invisible."
"...is there a reason you'd expect it to be more obvious in your case than with a human target?"
"We don't have human targets besides you, and you normally don't see bullet patterns when you cast spells on yourself."
He nods. "I can't cast Detect Magic at the same time but if there's some actually visible effect that would be instructive. Guidance."
Boop.
