Then she'll tell the story of her recent trip to Spain, where they needed a short-range combat precog to avoid triggering these doors that would turn into glass mosquitos.

She show off stills from the dungeon video, and photos of the glassquitos she rescued/abducted.  But mostly she talks about how to navigate a dungeon that's a multicolored and ever-changing labyrinth that you need to smash glass in order to get to the next victim.

She talks about rescuing the vic, but doesn't mention how much danger the victim had been in from blood loss.

She especially doesn't mention the desperation in the core fight, the adrenaline, the pure wordless satisfaction that comes from destroying something that her backlash is enraged about.

"Those are pretty. They survived the dungeon's death? Are they more organic than they look? My understanding is that non-organic monsters rarely survive..."

She's very deliberately trying not to think about how much damage sharp glass could do a a person. And the fact that her power might have been at least some protection there.

"No, they didn't make it.  But hey, maybe they'll be the next Ablinger marble and I'll be able to afford early retirement!"

"And either way you have nice pictures."

"And a cool story.  It wasn't really that hard a dungeon, either, just tricky.  I guess navigation was a little tricky."

"Does sound like it was tricky."

"If I hadn't had a sensor, it would have taken me all day just to explore it and find everyone.  But since I did have one, it was fine.  Bring the right esper to the job, right?"

"I could have helped, with the glass, probably. But I'm not someone they call in that far away."

"Would have been too easy with you around.  Can't be losing my edge."  Wait, she's feeling bad she wasn't there.  Let's just stop that in its tracks.  Normally, you want to get consent before kissing someone.  But in this case, Overcoat has registered an advance directive.  Does she object to a change of subject to no subject at all?

Nope.

After a minute she whispers "...thank you."

Little shiver.  "No problem.  At all."  God, I almost said 'No problem, beautiful'.  I'm going to need a break soon.  "Your turn?"

"Sure."

How about the time somebody tried to petsit her boyfriend's lizard in the dorms, against the rules, and got caught because the live crickets she was feeding it escaped into the hallway.

"I think it took a week for them to all either be caught or die off."

Okay, much better topic!  And much funnier one.  By the time Overcoat gets to the punchline about catching crickets, she has a collapsed esper belly-laughing helplessly on top of her.

"Normally I would say keeping a small pet in the dorms was a victimless crime, but in this case it had many victims."

"How long did it take you to stop finding dead crickets hidden around the dorm?"

"Oh, I think they found a couple behind one of the washing machines three months later."

"Poor lost guys."  Wait, shit, that's a downer of a topic, she's gonna start feeling bad that she wasn't out there founding Overcoat's Home for Extremely Lost Feeder Crickets.  "What kind'a trouble did she get into?"

"Oh, they made her pay a fine. Also I don't think that relationship lasted but that may or may not be related."

"Well, it is college."  Wait, shit.  "Although it looks like you beat the odds."

"True, we did beat the odds. Through hard work and communication, mostly."

She pauses for a moment.  "Got any advice?"  It'd be stupid to expect any relationship at this age to make it that long.  Fifteen friggin' years...I can't even imagine.

"Just the standards,I think, communication, making time for each other, and uh...don't go to bed angry."

She huffs out a humorless laugh.  "I'll see what I can do about that."  I think going to bed angry is fine.  Going to sleep, I'll consider it.

'Sorry that I don't have better advice..." She's low enough on backlash now that that's almost a normal apology.

"Well, it's worked for you, so it's gotta be good advice."  Aw, shit.  She's going to execute the standard distraction plan and zero Overcoat out with kissing.
