Lawrence will sweep the area with his psychic sensor power. It's obstructed by significant barriers like walls, but it's capable of piercing through cloth or water, so it might be useful. It's cheap relative to his control power.

They're going to wait a few minutes near the edge of the yard in the hopes that it comes out — they don't want to walk into the middle and be surprised by it.

Then he might be surprised that it's under that bush at the edge of the yard right behind him.

Is he surprised enough?

Lawrence's sensor power isn't a sphere, but a cone. He's trained a few different routines for how to sweep the cone around to cover relevant angles most efficiently.

He's surprised and purses his lip about it. Does it count if he's facing away from it?

Pursing his lip doesn't do it. Whether that's because of where he was facing or for some other reason, the stegosaur doesn't say. It's just napping under this here bush in the shade.

"It's here." Lawrence points.

He has no idea what this kind of animal eats.

"Should I try waking it up?"

"No. Try moving closer and putting the cage near it, first."

Lachlan does this! Does it react?

Yup, it blearily lifts its head and blinks big blue eyes at him. It's got a peacock-esque eyespot situation in blue and gold going on with the plates on its back, and gold filigree markings all over its skin and spiraling up the spikes of the thagomizer.

"It's so beautiful! I can totally see why OMP* would pay millions for them."

*Pronounced /ɑːmp/

"Are they safe to touch? They are, right?"

"Yeeeess...but can you try to like. Guide or push it into the cage?" Lawrence will throw the nut mix and Cheerios over for Lachlan to sprinkle into the cage.

Sprinkle! "We have food inside the cage for you, whatever you are! Nothing bad will happen to you if you go inside!" Lachlan will stroke the back of the stegosaurus and point at the food in the cage, where nothing bad will happen to it if it goes inside.

It purrs. He is now petting a purring stegosaurus that does not want to go in the cage where no more petting will occur.

Oh dear. It appears he has made a mistake. A pleasant mistake, but.

He really ought to have expected that outcome.

Better not to use his power if he can, but at least like this, where the monster is already adjacent to the cage, the duration of use is very short. Please kindly go into the cage.

In it lumbers. It's very small but has the gait of a large animal.

For the sake of safety, he maintains his power until Lachlan has closed the box and he can feel the connection between him and the monster be cut off.

After putting the cage on the wheelchair, he knocks on the front door of the house.

Someone looks through the window nearest the door.

"We've dealt with the stegosaurus monster," he announces. "If you find any other monsters, please tell us or call them in."

"WHAT?" she calls through the glass.

"WE'VE DEALT WITH THE MONSTER."

"OH GOOD. DID IT MESS UP MY POOL?"

"NO."

Hooray psychic powers!

Hooray! Thumbs up through the window and then the curtain falls back down.

Okay, great! Next sighting!
