It's the first time in a couple week's that they've needed to come back to this decaying wreck of a hovel in the ground, but it still gives her the shivers just the same as the first time they snuck in. The room is filled with the sparkling glow of their magelights, but the white and purple glows just seem to make the shadows deeper. There's this feeling in the air, like the place hasn't forgotten whose home it is, and even though she saw him bleed out on that desk with her own eyes she's still expecting him to stroll in at any moment, the creepy bastard.
Eventually, people who had been off tying up the Lord's tendril come back, and the inn gets a bit crowded. The proprietor of the inn comes over and wonders whether they have a place to stay for the night.
Rasha talks about the food that she enjoyed most, and the trinkets students of enchantment would occasionally gift. She confides in a loud whisper that it took her quite a while to see the strengths of hex casting among the myriad magics Lorelei could have learned, which gets her a playful-annoyed look from her friend. As the night passes she relaxes slowly, smiling more and laughing louder. She never thought of herself as a people-person before, but she has missed being in a crowd.
"No place to stay, and very little brought with us. If you can fix the first we'd be grateful."
The proprietor indicates that for helping deal with the Lord's tendril, he can put them up for a few nights while they find their feet. Not that he thinks it would be very difficult for them to pick up some money at the market on Wednesday, what with having novel magic, if they want to stay around that long.
He also thinks that this is a very small town, and that they might prefer to head toward Irkutsk; they can certainly decide that in the morning, after having had proper meals and sleep.
Figuring out how much media they have left needs to happen tonight then. She... doesn't know these people well enough. Not to trust showing them where they keep their most valuables. Her chest clenches, she breaths a touch shallower. It's not a new pain, but it never stops surprising her how much she misses having someone she trusts.
If they're put up to sleep somewhere private they can do it then. If not she'll figure something out. "Thank you. And good to know Irkutsk may suite our needs better. We're rather tired from the long day, where'll we be sleeping?"
The innkeeper shows them up to a private room. Dominika comes along to keep the translation going.
There's only one bed, but it's a nice bed. The window has a set of latching shutters, and the door can be barred from the inside.
Wow, they must be really thankful for the help.
"Alright, let's figure out how much media we have left. You good to check your reserves?"
She pouts. "Really? Yes, I'm good to check my levels." She starts the methodical process of retrieving vials squirrelled away in pockets and pouches, laying them out, consolidating the remaining media into full vials to get a count of how many are newly empty.
Well, she doesn't get as far as consolidating before she starts frowning. She still pours from one vial to another, carefully and repeatedly, but it was obvious from the moment they were all layed out that she has much less media remaining than she expected. Still decent reserves, but...
