Prota gives their name and explains that they are traveling to the Blue in a couple days.

"Emerald," you say. "I'm not in town for very long, this is a stopover on my trip to the Blue, but won't be leaving till probably the day after tomorrow at the earliest, it's not getting any farther away."

Step 161

Jachd meets pilgrims passing through sometimes, and is familiar with the concept of going to the Blue for magic. He finds the idea intriguing. He's not made the journey himself - why not? He prefers his limbs and extremities intact for smithing work, and doubts it is worth the risk to get a small magic in exchange for hair or something. But he's interested in the journey and likes hearing tales from elsewhere. [Jachd sometimes wishes he were a greefolk blacksmith. He admires their innovation and knowledge, but is relatively happy in Clan Pratchett and prefers the status quo to a dangerous journey. Also, skill is not always enough to earn entrance to a floating greefolk city.]

Jachd asks Prota about their pilgrimage. What might he want to know? Where Prota is from, what they plan to sacrifice. He can guess their route since they are currently on the most well-traveled road in the region. He's slightly uncomfortable at the idea of giving body parts to the Blue, so he asks indirectly.

"Oh, are you on your pilgrimage? Where from?" Jachd asks earnestly. "What are you going to, er," he holds out a hand and makes a chopping motion, as if cutting it off, and winces slightly.

None.

"My hair and some toes and fingers, most likely," I say. "Though I'm keeping in mind that if I wind up with a badly injured arm or something on the way I can trade it in!"
