Raven surfs social media in search of reactions to the latest major monster incident, a hydra attack on the highway in Austin that was dismissed by the Mist as a hundred-car pileup caused by a drunk driver. Anyone who can successfully perceive the Hydra is a person of interest, as a sufficiently clear-sighted mortal to help her squad navigate the Labyrinth.
"There are drugs to help with coordination too! Like the strength drugs you might have to try a few to find one without side effects."
"Well, the basic tradeoff is that stuff that steadies us also tends to slow us down. You might have an easier time with it, since your issues with coordination presumably aren't of the same origin as demigods', even if they look the same."
"Oh, something else you should know as a regular mortal is that you can make a lot of money having magic drugs tested on you."
"And how much of that value is just from aware mortals being rare vs the experimental drugs being super dangerous?"
"Just from mortals being super rare! You guys actually get fewer side effects than demigods, and even the ones we get are overwhelmingly annoying rather than dangerous. The administration just likes to do its due diligence."
"I'm a very sensitive kitten who hates my body's natural functioning being interefered with but I will nonetheless have to look into it."
"Okay, fuck, true. But like, nonetheless I kind of have a medical phobia. Like, my body is the one thing I'm at least kind of in control of, relinquishing that control feels scary."
"Well, like, I don't wanna be taking control from people! I joined the Amazons to use their tech and magic to give people more control over their bodies."
"You are the only valid doctor and you deserve whatever the Amazon equivalent of the Medal of Honor is."
"I don't know your taste, beyond the obvious trait? I think Dr. Maple is kinda hot. Uh, that's the Minister for Health and Environment. Responsible for the overall transhumanist project."
"Well uuh, I like athletic women, but also nerdy women. Like, being powerful and good at stuff and passionate about things is hot. This seems stupidly obvious but idk what's going through other people's heads even if they're dykes. Also alt fashion of any kind is hot. Love it when a woman makes it immediately visually obvious she's not another mindless drone with no individuality." She also tends to prefer pale skin but she doesn't want to make Raven and Lauren think she's not attracted to them.
Lauren facepalms.
"Of course the way to Hope's heart is also to make it about her job."
Ok Hope. Do not freak out the cute girl who is into you for some reason but also kind of has a medical phobia. You can do this.
"Ummmm, well, one of the strength drugs has the side effect of making you put on fat as well as muscle, I'd be fascinated to see your body changing under that."
"Speaking of putting on fat I'm hearing a lot of yapping and not seeing a lot of eating!"
"That was mentioned before, yes. I would feel the same way. Glad I'm not the only one fantasizing about you sensually weighing and measuring me, tracking my progress, teasing me about how all this flab is probably super bad for my joints or whatever but you can't bring yourself to tell me to lose it because it's sooo hot.."
Fuck, Raven's right. She takes a big bite of her meal.
"Actually for a good long while I'm going to be teasing you about how being so skinny is unhealthy and you need to put some meat on those bones! But yes eventually we might get to the other—"
