Yeah, she'll work her way south, since she can see some hints of less ominous border from here. Crimson spikes are never a good sign. The outside might be as cursed and evil as the inside.

It is not clear the exact correspondence between mountains and border fortresses, but she isn't too far from less ominous mountains.  However, although she can move along the border, she probably can't actually cross the border from the Woods Between, there doesn't seem to be any mountain passes she could make use of and the mountains get almost impossibly steep.

After a few miles the Between fades out back to normal reality again anyway.

She's been doing a lot of running in the snow. Time for some more. South right along the inside of this glowy wall thing that she's honestly a little nervous to touch.

There isn't any indication whether the energy field will affect Weiss or not.  It is presumably intended to affect demons.  Indeed, as she makes her way south, she can see one of the fat squat demons lying on the ground, struggling to get up and pull itself through the barrier.

They told her they cast a spell to help her get through, but she really doesn't think it is working!  She knows sooner or later some crusaders will come along and then she is dead.  If she had just an hour or two to lie around and recover she could be through, but she probably doesn't have that long, so she's dragging herself inch by inch forward.

Augh.

She still doesn't want to start just, randomly killing things that are smarter than the blobs of darkness that Curses are and less unambiguously disastrous than Cryptids.

She invisibly contemplates the dretch for a bit, trying to fight down the sudden urge to cry.

She could just... Push it back to the enclosed side of the barrier?

She could just push it back... if she doesn't think the demons hiding nearly a thousand feet away will be a problem.  They are behind a rocky outcropping, only the eyes of two demons are actually properly visible, and the mottled hides of their heads blend into the rocks reasonably well, and the rest of their bodies are concealed.

Their heads are like those of gigantic vultures.  They are apparently staring at the fat squat demon, waiting for... something?

She doesn't know what they are at first; Her vibration-sense is startlingly accurate and gives her a tiny hint of intuition that Something is over there, and she turns and looks and approaches closer, invisible, for a closer look, and-

Ah. Yep. Ambush.

Are these like Cryptids? That they have to die, for the sake of the world? Light Gods, that sucks. The thing is though... She's not sure of that, and she really doesn't want to get into the habit of starting fights she's not sure of.

And if people from one of the forts come along and stab the one that's stunned by the barrier, the other two big ones will be on them like mold on cheese (unwanted but inevitable). And probably some people die.

They're immune to fire, her usual favorite tool. She 'remembered' that at some point. Demons are immune to fire. Or at least mostly kinda ish? And definitely evil. And the two flying ones look scary enough to be a not inconsiderable threat, even with the advantage of invisibility...

She really doesn't want to get into the habit of starting fights she's not very sure are right. And weird implanted memories are not great for her overall epistemic status.

She goes to, invisibly, push or drag the one poking out of the barrier back across it, taking care not to hurt it. Much. If the big guys get into a tizzy about it maybe she'll fight them properly.

(It's actually 3 demons, she can tell now that she is paying attention, there was one entirely out of sight watching the other direction.)

Weiss can't hear it, but they are actually having a furious telepathic argument about who it is that is fucking up their plan.  They briefly accuse each other of slipping in some telekinesis, before deciding it must be some other demon with telekinesis.

One of the Vrocks takes off flying towards Weiss and the Dretch, communicating telepathically to everything within 100 feet as it flies.

The Dretch is part of a plan put it back, put it back!

It will take nearly a minute for the Vrock to actually fly over to Weiss and be in range for Weiss to hear.

She wants to be on the other side!  They'll hurt her if she tries coming back!

She is able to get up once Weiss gets her out of the barrier.  She looks around confused.

She see the Vrock flying over and yells in some harsh tongue (that somehow Weiss can understand.)

"I'll go back, I'll go back, just give me a minute!"

Damn. So they are planning to do something nasty.

She should probably do something about that.

Maybe she can lurk nearby-ish and... See if they attack people. And if they do. Well. At that point it will be a lot easier to commit violence. Defending people is a whole other game than just... Attacking. She won't hesitate nearly as much.

She's probably being weak and stupid in some way about this. What else is new.

She backs off a hundred feet or so, still invisible and hiding her tracks. That track-hiding magic doesn't last forever but just long enough for time and wind to obscure them somewhat.

She takes a breather, then.

"Could a get a head start this time?  You know, toss me?"

The Vrock telekinetically lifts the Dretch and tosses it (the barrier would interfere with telekinesis moving the Dretch slowly across), landing it nearly a third of the way through.

It flies back to its previous hiding spot.  (They would have taken multiple hiding spots, but the terrain is pretty barren here, and they got into an argument over the best spot so they are all sharing one spot.)

A mere ten minutes later, Weiss can hear a group of soldiers coming down the path.  They'll be to the spot within another ten minutes at their current pace... except they double time it when they see the Dretch, so 5 minutes.

Oh Boy Here We Go.

She feels preemptively sick, a low dread for the coming violence. But she still can't bring herself to preemptively attack.

She will go position herself right near the three hiding demons, ready to leap-pounce on one or two and start tearing with tooth and claw. And fire. Might as well, it might do something.

Aaaaand start building up 'illusions' of heavy chains around them, charging them up but not activating them yet, to prevent them from flying, at least as long as the energy lasts or until they work their way out of it. The boundaries of what her illusions can physically do are fuzzy sometimes, and they burn out faster especially if you can tell it's a trick.
