Someone guarding the teleport trapped room can guide them over to the confessional they where at earlier.

Jon, Select Thun and Theologian Rosin enter the room with Tanya while Ser Abban, the other paladin, and the wizard wait outside.

Select Thun speaks.  "So, I've heard bits and pieces of your story, 3 separate times with different emphases."  The archon was clear that her only frame of references for the divine was confused myths and legends from a planet with extremely rare divine activity and of some sort of Evil entity that claimed to be a Righteous God.

"Would you like to explain your story first, or would you like us to introduce ourselves in more detail?  And I understood there was possibly a tight timetable from some sort of unhealable cursed wound we might be working against which might or might not be fixed by our teleport somehow?  How urgently should we be working?"

He didn't actually get the explanation for why the teleport may have fixed the curse, maybe she's cursed to remain in Kenabres or something?  The important question is the timetable.

An excellent question! Tanya has no idea but that implies an obvious answer.

"There is too much we don't know and we keep being surprised. We should aim for the best solution we can deliver quickly, and then to improve on that if we have more time. I don't know how introducing yourself in detail would help" beyond the necessities of politeness "but that does not mean it won't help; I have very little local context. Perhaps I can start with a very quick overview, and then you can suggest how to proceed."

"The immediate urgency is, yes, caused by a cursed wound. It was placed either by Areelu Vorlesh or by someone impersonating her. We have no good explanation of why she, or anyone, would have done everything that appears to have been done to me, including but not only that, and we don't know what the curse's triggers are; it became life-threatening when I was teleported from Kenabres to Lastwall and returned to normal when I came back just now, but we can't assume there are no other variables."

"...the reason my impeding death is treated as urgent is that I appear to be evil by Pharasma's standards, which I learned only today; and I can potentially provide great value to your nations and possibly this whole planet if I can remain alive, because I come from another planet with technology and in narrow cases magic developed beyond yours, and represent both that knowledge and a potential link for establishing contact with my world. Terendelev also owes me a debt because I helped her earlier today and I think that's financing Lastwall's immediate assistance, but I think there is even greater potential in future cooperation."

Tanya has been considering how to best summarize her life stories without getting bogged down in the details.

"I was born a human male on a planet called Earth in its local year 1980. Technology was developed far beyond what seems to exist here, but magic was entirely unknown. In most of the world's nations, hunger and most diseases were things of the distant past, education was universal, the state provided for the basic needs of all its citizens - food, housing, medicine - even if they could not personally afford them, and the only dangers came from other people and, indeed, occasional wars and extreme mismanagement."

"There were many competing religions around the world, most of which said the other ones were false, and none of which had any empirical evidence - certainly no priests were granted spells, and there were no miracles attested by unimpeachable observers. Accordingly, most people either persisted in their local ancestral religion or denied the existence of gods, souls, and afterlives altogether."

"I led what I thought of as a normal life; I don't know what details I should go into or what about it might have been evil. At any rate, at the age of thirty-three I died unexpectedly and then I was faced with a - being, which did not give a name and whom I have labelled Being X. He read all my thoughts and responded to them, and I think I was disembodied. He presented, visually and verbally, as a confusing jumble of gods from several different Earth religions. I can recount the encounter in detail if it matters. He grew angry with me for not having worshipped him, or possibly any gods, in life and said he would reincarnate me in a world where my life would not be so pleasant that I could afford not to call on gods for help."

"I then awoke as a baby less than a year old. Female, this time, but still human. ...humans are the only intelligent species on both planets and are biologically identical between them as far as I can tell, and look the same as you do. This world also calls itself Earth; to distinguish let's call it Earth-2. I lived there for fourteen years; because I started out with the mind of a grown man, I entered the adult world early. And that's the world I was kidnapped from to here."

"On Earth-2 the current year is 1927 - or no, apparently I lost some years' worth of memory after being kidnapped so it's actually 1930 or so. Its history, nations, societies and technology vaguely resemble those of Earth-1 in the corresponding year but there are no exact matches. Unlike Earth-1, it has and has always had magic; until recent advances it had been of little practical use, but it is enough to explain a different history if you posit similar starting conditions at some point in the past." ...no, she shouldn't go into details yet. "The religious situation is similar to Earth-1, with differing details, but the presence of poorly understood magic can mask intervention by gods or other beings."

"At age eight I was identified as having high magic potential. High-grade mages are conscripted - at eighteen, the age of majority - but they serve as officers. I was an orphan with no other good prospects and the nation was at peace so I volunteered to start serving immediately, but two years later war broke out. Over the next four years I rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel in command of over a thousand men. Jon presumes that whatever actions Pharasma judges evil are likely in that period; it is certainly when my decisions affected other people the most. Being X also interfered in my and other people's lives at least once more, but I managed to survive that."

"And then I was - apparently - kidnapped by Areelu Vorlesh by unknown means, inflicted with a cursed wound, kept mostly unconscious for several years and then released this morning in Kenabres where I helped fend off Deskari's attack. Terendelev called Jon, and between them they told me what little I know about this planet and the locally active gods and their religions."

"How do you suggest we proceed?" They must have many questions and are hopefully good at putting them in a reasonable order.

He takes a moment to take it all in.  It is a lot.  He is definitely not equipped for this.  Well, he can make that clear.  Maybe introduce himself in the process.

"I guess I will introduce myself.  I am Select Finn Thun.  I graduated from Lastwall's divinity school in 4702, and served as a confessor to soldiers along the northern border with Belkzen.  I was not empowered by Iomedae until seven years later, when the fort I was stationed at was about to be overrun by orcs."

Should he explain that more, given that Von Degurechaff has no idea the rates of or circumstances under Iomedae normally picks clerics?  He should keep himself focused.

"Which is to say I must admit your circumstances are quite beyond my training and experience.  My experience is mostly with rank-and-file soldiers.  There are priests of Iomedae with experience serving as confessors to commanders of large numbers of soldiers, but Lastwall's commanders don't normally end up reading Evil and if they do, they will have almost always violated Lastwall's rules and procedures in the process.  Whereas in, for example, Taldor, many commanders are faced with situations where they have to choose between expectations, sometimes even direct orders, and actions that are good and righteous.  Which is to say, there are priests with experience likely more suitable to serving as your confessor, but none where available on such short notice."

He realizes he is doing that thing he does when he is nervous where he repeats himself.  After a pause, he looks to Theologian Agnew.

"I am Rosin Agnew, I graduated in 4715-" other planets won't have the same calendar "that is, 3 years ago.  I am not chosen by Iomedae, that is empowered as a cleric.  Um... for the past three years I have worked on research on the ethical and alignment implications of plausible advances and developments in magic.  I... I should indicate a similar qualifier to Select Thun's, the kind of work I do is mostly theoretical, with occasional feedback from called outsider or even more rarely a commune yes-or-no response for any questions that actually become materially relevant.  I suppose, unlike in Select Thun's case, you won't be able to do substantially better on anyone to get advice from, well, among mortals at least.  The right called outsider might be substantially more helpful."

What else should she mention.

"Just in case it matters, I studied some as a wizard before divinity school.  I have read magic, detect magic, and prestidigitation prepared."

"So... if your curse isn't an urgent threat to your life, we could hear about your life in more detail?  The archon is correct times of war with high stakes are much more likely to contain major Evil acts.  Your first life sounds unlikely to contain any major Evils... I could list the top dozen or so people are likely to overlook just in case?"

To be unequal to one's duties is unfortunate; to not then admit it is a crime. She can work with these people.

"Consular Apvander advised that a better suited team of experts might be put together in a few days' time. However, we don't know for certain that we have even a few days; events have been unfolding very quickly and we don't know how the curse will behave. The current, tentative plan is for me to learn the applicable laws of Lastwall which guarantee not being judged evil, swear to follow them until such time as I know enough about Pharasma's judgements to reliably not do evil without reference to them, and then try the atonement spell targeting 'neutral'. As part of that, I would need to know - or be able to derive at need - what specific things I did that contravened those laws. Of course you're welcome to propose a better plan if you see one."

"Listing the top common evils should take much less time than detailing my entire life or learning a complete set of laws, so that sounds like a fine idea to start with in case we can quickly identify a problem."
