Cool, thanks!

Yellow, meanwhile, spends the morning playing with the dogs, her group's and lone sassafras's and traveler's, and occasionally pausing to watch the greys go about their day.

The greys don't do much, though they take turns being on an actual break and poking their pocket everythings. They chat with each other idly or just observe the world or pace around the camp perimeter.

Well, they're still aliens and she's still curious, but she's not going to get too close or try to talk to them or anything.

Traveler comes out late in the morning, with a message off the new network-connection; it doesn't go directly to goosewing, somewhat unsurprisingly, but the assistant manning it says that most of their requests sound like things genecrafting will be able to do, and while goosewing themself doesn't want to travel, some of the other genecrafters who've been studying with them are interested in making the trip. Alternately they can visit; they can reasonably expect to find enough room in the visitors' grounds for a camp half again the size of Sun's, and if they'd need more space than that, or other accommodations, they can write again and swiftsoft - the assistant - will see what they can do.

Depending on how remote and how friendly to helicopter approach the area is they might want to put together a camp to receive visitors! They would also love to receive other genecrafters; there's going to be demand to spare.

Well it's on the other continent, so not on the other side of the world but definitely not close, and - well, he'd be comfortable enough taking a balloon through those mountains, but he'd want to pressurize the cabin and have emergency supplies on hand and take it slowly and so on, it might be a worse idea in a helicopter especially with more people than they'd have the material to walker out in an emergency.

They could bring in a search and rescue type helicopter from Amenta, those handle mountains well.

Sounds worth a try! Lone sassafras can probably come up with some kind of map of the area from the library, too. Anyway, he can write back letting them know the genecrafters are welcome to visit; it'll be a few months before they get here, at walker speeds.

That's a long time but the people who spring badly will just have to cope a little longer. Though probably someone is both rich and desperately springy and would be happy to pay them to go faster.

Walker speed is about as good as it gets for bringing a whole household somewhere; balloons and ships can be faster, but only with skills that most people don't have, and a crafter can only steer one balloon at a time and ships have the obvious terrain limitation.

They could load themselves into a helicopter, and they don't have self-piloting helicopters but they do have helicopters that can be slaved to other helicopters and fly in convoy?

If they want to go get them that almost certainly works, and if the crafters have an advantage in getting over the mountains - which he thinks they do - then they can arrange to meet on this side of them, too. He can write to find out how many genecrafters want to come and how big their households are; does Sun know offhand what the practical limit on number of helicopters is likely to be?

Uh, there can't be that many yoinkable search and rescue helicopters and manufacturing more would ultimately take longer than just waiting for the walkers, but the helicopters can make multiple trips and she would be surprised if they couldn't get, like, five.

Okay, so one household at a time, then. Do they have a lower bound for what skill level they want?

Anybody who can do as much spring relief as the test patients got will have all the work they want. There are billions of Amentans and most of them could stand to spring less and would make a trip and spend some cash to get it done.

All right. He'll go write something up.

The next day Sun reports that the "anxiety reduction" actually just interferes with pollution sensitivity. This is still useful! Hypersensitives will be glad there's a treatment! But most of the people who came by for that were not hypersensitive and want it fixed.

Blue has no objection to that! Presumably this means they get their generic trade tokens back, does this do anything to the amount of stuff the crafters can get?

They can still afford everything they wanted but have less leftover.

Okay, no worries then.

Orange is a little curious how they're handling that accounting internally - it looks to her like they're all one household and in crafter terms that means they'd share resources but some of the things they've said have sounded like that's not what's going on.

Sun looks into that and reports that the patients each bid individually for slots on the list, and the cost of the helicopter was provided by the governor's office but they're expecting to sell the impact certificate.

What's that last thing?

An impact certificate is this neat financial instrument to incentivize people who are close to important opportunities to take those opportunities instead of just waiting for somebody who cares more to do it. In this case, getting a test on genecrafting for Amentans underway was not centrally the purview of the governor's office, but it was within the ability thereof. So they did it anyway, and will sell the credit for making that happen to Soft Spring or the Foundation for Medical Frontier Advancement or something, somebody who would have done it if they'd been there and had a helicopter. The fact that they expect someone will buy the certificate made them more willing to outlay the resources.

Huh, okay, so in easy terms the helicopter was covered as something-like-charity, basically? With some clever internal organization involved to make it happen fast enough, since they do everything with money and that's slow?

Money's not usually very slow, but in this case those charities are mostly based on another entire planet and the action they took wasn't routine.
