"Are you alright?" he asks in French.  "You were quiet for a long time, there."

"It didn't seem like I was helping."

Hug.  "It's - tricky.  It's been a long time since I've handled anything - not as important as this, but... important in the same way."

Hug.  "You seek out importance, though."

"I do."  Hairpet.  "I'm a little worried I might go dormant under the circumstances."

"Oh, dear."

"Just something to watch out for."

"If it looks like that might happen we can steal some books and head to Argentina.  Ignore the problem for a while."

"I don't know that that would help.  Just - if I seem a little bit too flippant, say something, will you?"

"Of course.  And in the meantime..."

"Hmm."  He pulls on her hair, a little.  "Let's go find somewhere with somewhat more privacy.  - Not where we stayed last day."

"Well, alright."

The Sunnydale public library exists. There's books in there, visible through the windows. It is locked and deserted at this hour.

Yessssssss.

How locked, precisely  no, she's not going to test that.  Yet.

.....But, just in case, there aren't any non-obvious doors that someone forgot to lock, or open windows, or otherwise teenager-sized non-traditional ways in, are there?  Which are Not Locked.

Nope, looks like they're pretty thorough about locking things here in Sunnydale's non-residential buildings.

....Okay, she's going to write a thing and cylinder it and then go back to look for the human.  Discreetly.

The human is actually in the cab of a pickup truck now, driving slowly along the street. Does this affect the note-passing plan?

....Yeah, she'll stalk it for a block or two and then go stand a ways ahead in its path, under a streetlight.

She brakes. She rolls down the window. "Even if you can take getting hit by a car when it's going ten times this fast, you'll wreck the car in the process."

Hm.  Nod.

She telegraphs that she's going to throw the note and then does that.

- Will people around here behave peaceably around a kid in all black with a veil she refuses to take off, e.g. in a libary?
- Will you be mad at Ellis if you find out I entered a closed library, even if I put everything back before morning?
- What could I do to earn some local money?
- What's your name?

"...Savvy people may ask you to demonstrate that you are not a normal vampire, most probably by waving a cross at you but not necessarily, I don't know if that affects you lot. Most people aren't savvy and from them the most extreme likely reaction is being asked to leave. I am unclear on how much Ellis is responsible for you, and I do not intrinsically object all that terribly much to the described library behavior, but anything that increases my enforcement burden by, for example, hearing that you entered a closed library and following up on that to discover that you did in fact put everything back before morning, is a bit annoying, and that'll add up if you lot want to do a lot of things. Kids cannot get normal jobs but you could, if the veil wasn't too off-putting, maybe mow lawns for people. I don't want to give out my real name because that leaks information that could be used to find out more things about me but you may call me Nikki."
