Vivian looks through them, and one of them jumps out to her. A holodeck japanese garden designed to be enfolding and peaceful.

"This one looks good," she says. "If you could give me maybe an hour or two I think it could really help."

"Of course. There's so much that people just... miss out on, when they force themselves to sit at a desk all the time. Even in your world, the most valuable workers are given green space to explore and room to breathe, when they can. Please, go rest."

"Alright."

She tabs through the menu on the console, and accepts the teleport.

She appears in a large green space, the sky overhead enclosed by arching branches. The garden goes on in every distance as far as she can see, the illusion of space so perfect it might as well be real.

A large, flat circular rock is embedded by the side of a reflecting pool, a stone lantern standing by its side. Ornamental koi swim in the pool, mouthing at the base of a waterfall that scatters droplets of water everywhere in a cool mist. Above, cherry blossoms in full bloom hang from the trees.

There is a small basket of cherries on the ground by the rock, with a note. "For Vivian."

Sunlight dapples on the stones. Fed by a rivulet off the waterfall, a shishi-odoshi makes a steady rhythm of filling water and hollow bamboo bonks.

Birds hum and chatter as well, a quiet ambience of life and the living.

Vivian comes and sits by the side of the pool on the flat stone, and closes her eyes.

The mist is cool and soft, the sounds a slow, repetitive rhythm that lets her drift in the absence of thought. The rush of the waterfall and the chirping of the birds lulls her.

So much has changed in an instant. A new world. A new life. A project that'll take years. Some people might miss her, but... if she can help, it's what she should do.

A new body...

A new task to take on.

It's hard to relax. Hard to let go. But she can't think of her mission for every moment in the next few years.

If her friends could see her now...

She sits, and thinks.

Eventually she manages to forget her task a little. To unclench. It's easier, now, with the touch of the pools on her. The sounds of the birds are so bright.

She feels at peace in a way she's rarely if ever been before. Her body is right. Her mind is more still, less tumultous. Her heart is just that slight amount stronger. It feels good.

Before all this she'd leap back to work the moment she felt okay. But she can take her time. For the flight of birds

and for the falls

that once again crash o'er all

and make a place with which to rest

here is the place of your bequest

to be anew and change yourself

to bring a world to better health

and in your heart be bright and whole

you have a chance; exalt your soul.

... Alright. She's ready.

She lingers a moment, even still. Who knows when she'll next see beauty like this.

But eventually she returns to Tiera's side.

"I took some time to process, and feel more confident now. I think the ten/ten/ten build with Upper Left Blue is solid, despite the drawbacks of Heroic Destiny. Luck, skill, and a golden tongue ought to be enough."

She smiles gently.

"I'm glad you're feeling better. I agree that it's a solid skillset - the only thing that strikes me as perhaps missing is an obvious direction for where to start. Do you have any more thoughts on that, now?"

"I think I'm better working from the bottom up than from the top down. I'm sure I'll have to get involved with executives and so on eventually, but my personal skills are much more developed for working with people who are relatively poor than with high mucky-mucks. A grassroots movement plays to my strengths."

She nods gently.

"There's still a handful of different approaches available there - are you thinking of trying to start with an 'online' movement, or one more local?"

"Online, I think. Though that doesn't preclude using local resources, of course."

She nods firmly.

"Is there anything else you'd like to address before we go towards finalization of your basic equipment and insertion point? It sounds like you've settled on what you're looking for, at least in the generalities."

"I don't think so, no. Obsessing over the details has its place, but I think we've done quite enough of it already."
