"May I join in the petting?"

"Hmmmmmmm very well."

Pets.Nice and firm and  in the correct direction.

"Thank you. It's been a while since I had a cat to pet."

"Well, I moved out of my parents' place and my current arrangement isn't very permanent so it didn't seem like a good time to get a pet, even though the landlady probably wouldn't mind a cat."

"Well, I'm better than a normal cat anyway so at least you will not go home to be disappointed by a normal cat."

"That's true!"

"I have wings," he says, spreading one out right in her face, "and you could scratch under them for me."

"Of course." Scritches. "You have very pretty wings."

Purrrrrrrrrr.

"My life may have become more complicated but it does have some great perks."

"I would've become an esper on purpose, if that were a thing people could do."

"I never thought much about it happening to me honestly. Well, maybe when I was little and saw a show about dungeon dinosaurs and wanted to catch one and ride it. But I do think my power is neat."

"If not a power that affords riding a dungeon dinosaur so much."

"That's true. But I'm not eight years old anymore. Not that riding a dinosaur wouldn't still be pretty cool, I just have a broader perspective on what's cool."

"There should be a dedicated monster zoo, to make it more of a worthwhile proposition to catch them."

"You were thinking about organizing one, right?"

"I have had this thought before, yes. I couldn't personally run it, not when I'm haring off to dungeons all the time, but maybe if I just make enough phone calls..."

"Maybe I know some people who could help, or maybe they have professors that could help. It seems like an investment that ought to pay for itself if it's well set up. It's just that the initial setup would take a ton of money and effort."

"Yeah, maybe this is just my personal interest talking but I do think people would go to it."

"I think they would! I'm not sure what sort of people would be most useful to get in touch with though. I've never thought about using my contact list strategically for anything longer term than organizing study groups before."

"Well, do you study anything where the students are majoring in, like, zoo-y stuff?"

"Well I've taken an animal biology course and made a few contacts there but I don't know if any of them are specifically into zoo stuff. But maybe they know people who are. Honestly I might stay in college part time just because that's where a lot of my social life is currently. I don't even necessarily need to go for a degree I suppose."

"The problem I always have trying to place monsters in zoos is that people get into working at zoos because they love animals. And monsters are a whole different ballgame. They do not have anything to teach us about evolution or ecology or conservation."

"True. You'd need people with a very specific overlap of interests I suppose. Which people I currently personally know aren't that likely to have since I didn't previously have a reason to be specifically interested in that sort of thing. I know a few people with some interests in dungeons but I only know one guy who's even maybe interested in making a career of it, and he's into statistics."
