Two days after the twins left to pack up and settle things where they've been living, Stephen gets a call shortly after dinner.
Sawney retrieves an oddly shaped crystal and speaks through it close to Jackie's ear. "We are not planning to hurt or kill you. Cooperate and we will not change our plans. Don't move."
Those last two and a half words have some sort of weight to it and Jackie can feel her limbs fighting against any deliberate attempt at moving, her eyes and neck appear to still be functioning properly.
She makes a brief attempt to move against it, feeling gleeful (and aroused) when that fails.
Can he hear her if she turns her head to speak into the crystal herself? If so, he'll hear her say, "But what if I want you to hurt me?" If not, they'll have to take the way she's not struggling as a (not entirely incorrect) answer.
Percy didn't hear that, but she is not surprised. She types in her phone for them to tie her up, just to be sure.
She takes the crystal from Sawney, she also pulls out a pocket knife. "Hey, there. Please cooperate. Do you have any questions before we start asking you things?"
She giggles when he backs up.
"Sure, I'll cooperate. I've got one question, I guess. You after me, Dav, or Dav's new toy?"
She's feeling talkative, apparently. "He's the brother of one of his past... 'victims'. Never met either of them - they knew each other before I met Dav - but he talks about them all the time. 'The one that got away,' or whatever. He's been watching them for as long as I've known him, waiting for some 'perfect moment'." She pauses before answering the second one, and then grins, "Well, honestly, you've already dealt with the majority of his defenses. No idea how you found us, but obscurity was a big one. I'm another."
"I'm magic." In demonstration, she opens her mouth and breathes out a long tongue of fire, flicking it towards Percy's face, though not close enough to burn.
She smiles at both of them, eyes crinkling with laughter.
"Mostly by chance," she tells Percy. "He went looking for people with... unusual abilities, after that boy escaped him. Happened upon me at a party and noticed that some of my little magic tricks were more magic than trick."
Percy smiles back. "How lucky, but I guess he has the resources. Speaking of which, what else does he have in there?"
Aaron takes the speaking stone for a moment. "How is Alex? What have you two done to him?"
"I haven't done anything to the guy. Dav won't even let me in the room," she says nonchalantly, though there's a touch of annoyance to her emotions. "I imagine he's trying to get him to manifest a power, though. Using the techniques he practised on me. It's only been a couple days, so I imagine he's still working on the straightforward pain one. Maybe he's done drowning too, though. Couldn't say!"
Before Aaron can react in anger, Percy stops him. And apparently sends him away.
"Do you think Dav is good enough to have kept him alive?"
Aww, sending him away? That's disappointing, she was curious about what he'd do.
"Oh trust me," she chuckles, "Davin is very good." She recalls her own experiences which support this fact, the reminiscence a mixed bag of pleasant and unpleasant feelings - memories of pain, exhaustion, boredom, and anger, mixed with pleasure, euphoria, and fascination. "If he doesn't want the guy dead - and he doesn't - something would have to go seriously wrong to make him that way."
"Well... there is that, if he is constraining himself to only non-magical methods and not killing then it won't be anything we can't fix." She smiles, like this is an entirely normal topic. "Still, I feel that his twin won't stand for it."
"I'm sure he won't," she agrees. Then she chuckles, "You don't need to pretend for me, sweetheart, I've already decided to turn my coat. This has been one of the most interesting conversations of my life, so far, and I've had some interesting conversations, believe me. Even if you kill me when this is done, I think it'll have been worth it just to have seen all this magic." She really believes that, too, though her confidence maybe suggests that she's holding back a few cards to be played at the last moment.
She tilts her head, "What else did you want to know about? His other resources?"
"Oh, it's not quite pretense, deary. I tell you if you turn out to be a good little girl. And yes, do tell us about his other resources."
She giggles, "Alright. The two guys you saw at the house are the only other people he has around right now, they're bog-standard mundane human, but he's beat some decent combat skills into them. Dav's no slouch at that, either - I dunno if they told you, but the fighty Starr learned a lot from Dav before he took the flighty one, or so I was told. Hmm," she thinks, "Oh yeah, there's a gun in the bedroom, but he won't be carrying it on him. No need. Aannd... he'll have a couple prepped needles with that drug he found that kept me out of it enough to be unable to use my powers, for whenever the guy manifests some. It's some strong stuff, so watch out for it."
