"Are we picking those out? The code names."

"The matter is a bit too - delicate, to leave to the aesthetics of specific youth, is the general consensus. Your image and code names were developed by the public relations department."

"So the Captain America model again."

"Exactly so. Captain America, the world's first acknowledged superhero, was a loyal servant of his country. He worked closely with the various departments involved in public message in the second world war."

He never actually met the original Captain America.

He doesn't really care, though. Propaganda's the same.

He nods. "So what's the 'message,' then?"

"A legacy team, all related to prior Avengers or allies thereof, in the mold of Captain America. Soldiers who fight for their country's freedom from tyranny, and whose sacrifice takes the heat off their fellow soldier."

"Elijah Bradley, to be known as the grandson of one of the early members of Project Rebirth, blessed with the powers his grandfather never managed. Your identity will be harder to keep covered, but not impossible, and we should be able to keep your family's name out of the media. You will be the official team leader, with the code name Patriot."

"Cassandra Lang, genius daughter of the most recent Ant-Man, who wishes to take up her father's mantle. Fortunately, your father's secret identity was never compromised. You will be Patriot's second, with the code name Stature."

"Theodore Altman, son of the original Captain Marvel and a Skrull princess. Your father's Kree heritage was never fully revealed, and we will take steps to keep it that way. The skrull are our allies, though, and you will be publicly known as the child of one of our heroes and one of theirs. The public relations department would also like to draw some parallels to the Hulk, who is more well known and liked, and as such your code name will be Hulkling."

"Nausicaa Kaplan, speculated to be a relation of Storm, a member of the X-Men and an ally of the Avengers. You will be publicly listed as her granddaughter. Your code name will be Tempest."

"Sue Shepherd. Due to your... Uncertain background, and your strong resemblance to Nausicaa, your public persona will be as her younger sister. Your code name will be Jet."

"Marian Zima will be explicitly a normal member of the team, a way for the everyday American to feel connected. Your persona will be mostly based around your brilliance in biological and medical sciences. Your code name will be Ouroboros."

"Any - irregularities - are best kept out of the public eye, as well as any conflicts within the team."

Public relations bullshit, great. Not getting angry at the blatant dismissal of his grandfather is - hard.

Still, he just nods, tersely.

"Sure."

"Works for me, I guess."

"I - don't know I'll be good at lying..."

"You won't be in front of the media often, nor will you be giving a lot of live interviews. Our media departments will handle the spin."

"...Okay, I guess."

"I'm fine with all that."

People glance at Sue.

She stares back, unimpressed.

"I'm not going to go to the media, or anything, but I'm not getting up there and lying for you all."

Sigh. "You won't be required to talk to the media."

"Fine." She leans back.

"Does anyone else have questions?"

They all shake their heads.

"Public relations wants to work with you all on image, then."

"All at once?"

"At first, yes, though they'll also be speaking to you separately afterwards."

She glances at her future teammates. "Should we go now?"

"Whenever you are all ready."

There's some general murmurs, all mostly agreeing that now's fine enough, with varying enthusiasm.

He leads them to another room, then. An office, bland, the only personality a collection of cheap knick-knacks on the desk of the public relation specialist.

The Vision leaves.
