She startles and drops her scroll with a little 'eep' sound! After scrambling to pick it up, she turns and looks around, blinking at the fox that is plausibly near and definitely paying attention. "Um, hello? Oh, I'm looking for my roommate's cat... He's missing."

She tilts her head, then nods decisively.

...Damn if she wouldn't really like to have a translator right now, but she thinks she can manage something with a conveniently write/dig-able surface...

...She'll try charades, first.

She taps her nose with a paw, then looks around - and then if that doesn't seem to be enough for her to connect the dots, she'll try dramatically overacting the whole scent-tracking thing.

"You think you might be able to smell him? I think there are a lot of cats in this city, and I don't have anything of his on me right now... I was trying to use the tracking beacon Misty put in his collar, but I haven't found any sign of it..."

She shrugs.  Though the "don't have anything of his on me right now" produces a bit of a 'well, darn'.

But maybe.  And if he was particularly cuddly she might be able to find cat-that-smells-like-this-girl.

"I might be able to get his bed... But I don't want to take you out of your way. I'm sure you have important things to do, miss fox."

She does not have anything more important to do, and headshakes about it.

"No, really! He's probably fine anyway and it's just that I'm worried, maybe over nothing."

Headshake headshake headshake.

Jump down and twine around her legs like a cat that's being friendly.

A smile. "If you want to help so much I guess it would be mean to stop you! May I pet you a little bit first? Oh, I'm Weiya."

Nodnod yes pet her.

(She has had this girl for five minutes and if anything happened to her she would...  She's not going to finish that joke.)

This spot just behind the ears should be good, right? Mango the cat likes it like that at least!

"The cat I'm looking for is named Mango. He's mostly orange but a little bit brownish-yellow at the back. He has a green collar. He's really nice, just... Kind of forgetful."

She nods.

And makes happy noises, because those are good scritches.

...This is why you don't let your cat outdoors unless they're leash-trained or something, she can't say in response to that.

...Now how can she find the trail of this cat...

Well, tracing back from the house wouldn't be a bad start.

Weiya rambles on about how nice this or that part of the city is as she goes.

They proceed through square-roofed, green-painted buildings that definitely give off the vibes of a college campus, complete with more people in wizard hats and robes. People mostly aren't randomly casting spells in public and carry themselves with some amount of pomp and dignity. It's crowded here, narrower streets, more people.

'Home' appears to be three blocks away, in a six-story building that looks a bit like student housing modulo the technology on display. There's a receptionist-coded guy in a similar Fancy Hat getup at a desk just inside, who greets 'miss Lankai' warmly and eyes Alicia a bit suspiciously, saying, "That's not a cat."

"No, it's a kitsune! She's going to help me find Mango, but we need a sniff of his bed."

"...Sure. Just remember that it's one pet per room here, alright?"

"I know, thank you for the reminder! We'll be back out soon."

-And up the stairs. All five flights of them. She's a little out of breath by the time they're done. And then to a room, which does prove to be a small double-bunk room in student housing style, unlocked with a metal key. One of the two desks is completely clean and clear, and the other has an array of circular spell diagrams on yellowish paper lined up in a neat grid formation on top of it.

"This is our room! Mango's bed is right over there."

Oh, gods, the stairs.  She remembers the stairs of her own college dorm experience.  They weren't much better.

Anyway.  Time to get a good idea of what Mango smells like, and to start tracing him.

It's clear that Mango hangs out here a lot. The fox instincts for this sort of thing aren't really explicable, but-

As Weiya heads downstairs following her, the freshest trail points not outside into the street, but deeper into the housing building. Down into a basement, and then on a rather meandering path through slightly damp tunnels, and then back up again, into a stately hallway. When they enter the door from the basement level, there's a very light frisson of something that Alicia can feel, presumably magic energy.

"I think this is Brightweave Hall. There are advanced classes and isolation labs here. I'm not sure if we're supposed to be here... But the door wasn't locked, I suppose!"

Oh she hopes Mango hasn't gotten caught up in any weird magical experiments...

She shrugs, and tries to get across "Well you could always just blame me" with a bit of handwaving.  Or paw-waving, as the case may be.
