I'll admit, I can see myself getting attached to some of these powers. But is there anything that can make those stop working, if I don't take any of the options that do that? Like, what was it, Dramatic Damsel?

No, all Soulbound is adding is making it so that things that aren't powers of the Spirit by themselves can be as impossible to lose as powers of the Spirit are if you feel that way about them.

And because all of these powers are guaranteed to have no bad side effects, this wouldn't, for example, make it so that I'm stuck with my current Name and can't transition to a stronger Name in the future if the opportunity arises.

Exactly. Though it might make it so that if there's something about your current Name that you like and want to have permanently, you can keep that even if you change to a different Name, without making the other Name any weaker.

...alright, yeah, she'd be sad to give up Learn. She's only had it for a few months and she already can't imagine trying to learn languages without it. Genuine strategic usefulness puts Soulbound in squiggle tier. (Squiggle tier is getting pretty close to 70 points. It's not looking like she's going to have much left over for dot tier.)

She has to read the Personal Space/Bubble/Slipstream options a few times.

All 3 of these seem pretty careful to make sure I can't use them to be untouchable in a fight. I guess there's already Battle Angel for that.

Yes. These powers are meant for personal safety, and it would be thematically inappropriate for them to also be useful for harming others without letting them fight back. The Battle powers are meant for fighting.

Makes sense.

Is she particularly worried about the problem this set of powers is trying to solve? It's not as though she doesn't know that rape happens, but since she got her Name and started training with a sword she hasn't felt like someone who has to worry about it happening to her. Even before that, the only reason those two guards got the better of her, the night she met Black, was that they outnumbered her two to one and the second one took her by surprise. If it happened again now, she could take them easily.

Personal Space seems the closest to something she might want, of the three, and...she really isn't all that fussed about it.

Think I'll pass on these. I can defend myself just fine if I need to.

Very reasonable. I'm glad they exist for the people who need them, but not everyone does.

She reads on.

I think Inner World and its followup might also be for people who aren't me. I've had enough meaningful dream sequences inside my own head for a lifetime, thanks.

Also very reasonable!

Closed Book and Indelible need a second reading for her to catch the distinction between them, but then they both get stars.

Iron Will says I can let things through if I want, but the others don't. Does that mean I can't turn them off unless I take Iron Will?

She can't think of a reason she'd want to right now, but it seems bad to not have the option.

Not consistently the way Iron Will can; they're a little bendable at the edges if you're really sure of something.

Iron Will can have a star as well, then.

Next up is It Gets Better, which already has a checkmark. Its followup, Small Blessings, seems...nice to have but not nearly as useful as the base power, for once.

You're breaking the pattern! The basic power is supposed to be frivolous and the followup is supposed to make it way more useful and powerful!

But Small Blessings can have a dot, why not.

Sometimes someone wants to start with something very useful and extend it a little bit.

It makes a lot more sense that way around, too. I wouldn't have nearly so many questions about the Spirit's priorities if more of the chains of linked powers were like this one.

Sometimes the easiest way to build a power is on a foundation of another power.

I'll take your word for it, I guess.

Next up is...

Next to "The Great Equalizer", she writes:

If I'm reading this right, it could change everything. Destroy the whole system of Names and Roles.

Yes, it can do things like that.
