"- huh, how'd you arrive at that figure?"

"I don't generally work in ways which earn me the maximum amount of money I could make, and if I instead did..."

"So the tracker things aren't off the rack?"

"I didn't make them, if that's what you're asking."

"I was imagining job benefit."

"Depends how you're conceptualizing it, I think.  But I did pay money for them, and not directly to my employers."

"Job perk to be allowed to buy them at all, maybe?"

"Job perk to be able to network with gadgeteers."

"What other kinds of thing come out of that kind of lab?"

"Mm, I'm going to list things that are sufficiently out of date to have hit the public market - eyescan locks, for computers and phones, which combine retina scans with an eye movement pattern, currently unspoofable; medication implants, which release precise amounts of substances into the body at regular intervals; and fine motorscalpels, which have made surgery much safer and less invasive."

"We have retina scans but I don't know them to do eye movements. We have medication implants but maybe yours are better. I don't know us to have anything I'd know to call a fine motorscalpel."

"Eyescans admittedly seem somewhat superfluous in a place with as little sabotage as you claim your world has."

"Some places hire espers with lousy powers to poke everybody who's going in, to make sure they aren't unexpectedly also espers. But that's like, military installations and stuff."

"My phone is eyescan capable, I just don't have it turned on, because.  Annoying.  ...And I wasn't an important person who things happen to, before.  I should maybe turn it on, now."

"Sorry."

"It's fiiiiiiiine.  ...You calling me 'it' was also like, mostly fine, or - I forgive you for it?  I was trying to give you social anxiety, did that like work, was it helpful do you think -"

"Yes, it helped a lot, hopefully it will never come up again."

Hugsqueeze.  "Hopefully it will never come up again."

"I think in the normal course of operations an esper will almost never run backlash up to awakening levels. Even if I wind up ill-advisedly using my powers without being able to find a partner they'll convert into the 'chronic' or 'resting' form after a while and then I'll just be at elevated all cause mortality risk due to magical organ damage to mostly not my brain."

"...Oh no but also yay??"

"There will probably be some loneliness, most people don't get completely unflavored generic chronic backlash. But yeah, in the seventies people didn't know guiding was a thing, everybody was running themselves into the ground saving people and never getting any of the backlash bled off, and some of them lived long enough to see it discovered that actually they should totally be making out constantly with espers if it feels nice."

"...They should?  I don't think you mentioned that part.  Although I guess you said - "  She glances over at Kennedy.  "I guess you talked about blood donation, and that's not the only.  Uh.  Thing that is like blood donation."

"- sorry, my verbal filter is not in complete working order. Blood donation also works but it has to be very prompt, the decay of the guiding effect over time is really sharp, they have special machines for it - they can even make the blood go in a circle to keep it up for longer if the types work out in both directions. But then you need blood type compatibility and esper compatibility and those don't correlate at all."

"I think blood is also for adults, please."

"...is it? Okay, I'll see what I can do."
