He goes a little stiff and the feathers point out but he doesn't hiss or flinch away and still seems pretty calm. He peers at the piano.

There are these strings, and these hammers, and here's how the hammers hit the strings when you press the keys!

He stares in fascination at vibrating strings and abruptly realizes- The shorter ones make different sounds because sound is air moving (his science tutor said), and the strings are moving the air, and the moving is - different somehow - on short ones! Is that right???

Yes! They can have his tutor cover sound waves next visit!

YES he is smart! Learning things is very good! He is glad hatching has not been nearly as scary as he thought it would be! He would like to be put down now and go outside because he has a sudden urge to run around real fast.

Okay! They can open the door for him.

And he gleefully runs around the garden making little ee, ee noises.

They have a big garden and it abuts a river. The garden includes a hammock, rosebushes, fruit trees, a mosaic wall, wooden benches in an aesthetic swoopy style, windchimes, hummingbirds, butterflies, bees, and flowerbeds. There are a couple small outbuildings, one tucked into an orchard and one right by the river and one just by the hammock.

This garden seems really great! He gives the hammock a wide berth, regarding it with suspicion. Like that couch pit. Unstable surfaces are not trustworthy! Roses are cool! Plants with teeth! Sort of. What a neat idea. Trees are nice, tall and sturdy and making pleasant sounds in breezes, even if fruit holds no appeal to him. The benches are pretty and make him think of wind.

He tilts his head left and right at the mosaic, even craning his whole neck almost 180 degrees upside down. Something inside him wants to pry the shiny tiles off and put them in a big pile somewhere - but that would ruin the art!

It would certainly do that. If he wants some tiles to make his own art with they can buy him a kit complete with plaster and a frame, though.

Ooh. ...Why would they just GIVE him things though?

Oh dear. ...why didn't this come up with the food or the tutor? They know he is not an Amentan kid but they are prepared here for something in the general conceptual space of raising an Amentan kid which definitely includes providing food, shelter, and art supplies at least up to reasonable limits. His job is to be adorable and learn things and do stuff and hopefully be okay with them posting all these photos and video snippets on their blog.

He only thought of it now because a mosaic is unique and pretty enough to be Treasure. Which is just obviously great.

...He doesn't know what 'adorable' is like but learning things definitely sounds good. He is a little worried that if he turns out to be stupid or weak everyone will know because of the blog.

If there's anything he doesn't want going up on the blog they can skip that? Adorable is stuff like flopping in somebody's lap while they play piano, or running around the garden looking at stuff, those are adorable.

Then he'd better run around and look at stuff some more! The windchimes are nice and he sings along to their tinkling for a bit. He's very curious about the birds and insects, holding himself low and staring, halfway hidden behind a bench.

Some of those are pollinators for the plants!

He starts talking to a hummingbird, extremely simple and slow and even more wordless than usual. 'Are you hungry', 'What do I look like'. They can't hear the bird's response but it seems he can. The bird flies off to another set of flowers after a minute and he tromps after it.

Flowers are even prettier to hummingbirds!

"You can see through their eyes?"

I have to ask. It showed me a little bit then got distracted. It's always hungry.

"Huh."

He tries talking to bees and butterflies and they're almost totally incapable of responding. So he eats a bee.

"Those can sting, be careful."

He doesn't eat any more bees, but being stung doesn't sound that bad unless they have lethal venom or something. It wasn't very tasty anyway.

He tilts his head left and right when he finds the beehive though.

...The hive is greater than the all the bees together. It's almost like it has a soul.

"The bees have simple behavior algorithms that let them all work together and cooperate!"

He thinks maybe he can guess some of them from looking at the weird tangle of sixth-sense stuff that all the bees and larvae all together make? It's really cool how stupid bees make something smart-ish together. He could probably spend all day sitting here staring at it.
