A dragon explores space, finds Amenta.

The secrets of Delver technology could not resist decryption forever. While the tools they wielded are deeply weird, jealously guarded, and immensely complicated, living beings built the tools that brought aliens to the dragons' first world. The great calamity left ruins aplenty behind, and once grown the Seeker gathered these old tools as their very favorite sort of treasure. Dragons are not intelligent in quite the same way as a No-Tail, but they are far from stupid. They live forever and can be very determined if they set their mind to it.

The Seeker brought all its tools and treasure along with it when the world was evacuated ahead of the Tailless's relentless growth and hunger for resources. It studied under the great elder Darktooth on the new world, studied together with Darktooth (an arrangement not very common with dragons, as they are not particularly social), for a very long time. And eventually, by application of the hard claws of experiment and calculation and theorizing, the universe revealed its workings, cold and precise and mathematical. Creating more and more tools of the highest sophistication, and teaching others of its kind in exchange for wealth, and even spawning offspring and guiding them to adulthood, was all satisfying for a long while, but eventually... He got bored.

And so, the Seeker wondered if the long sleep for the journey between stars was really necessary, and got to work seeing about making it not. He managed it eventually, and built a starship, and went exploring. Stars come in a beautiful variety of kinds, and the worlds around them do too, but very, very few bear any sign of life. They are mostly barren and empty.

...Oh, this one is emitting curious amounts of low-frequency light. Worth investigating. Pushing a starship faster than light requires a touch of magic (at least for now), which he provides.

In the outer solar system of a certain star, well above the plane of the ecliptic, a black sphere the size of a city block appears and has a look around with powerful telescopes.

SUCCESS!

She stares at the pretty flames.

I'm going to be better at fire when I'm bigger!

"Yup! Next time the park has a campfire safety class we should bring you to it."

Okay. I remember that fire will eat everything if you let it.

"Mm-hm, but you can learn not to let it."

She does that tail-nod again.

I found two more shelf fungus.

"Can you show me?"

She will totally show Pep the mushrooms! One is about ten minutes' walk from the cabin and one is small and new.

"Ooh, good find, I might've missed this little one till it was bigger."

Horray!

I want to learn more kinds of things you're looking for and find them ALL!

"All right, let's find more mushrooms!" He helps her find a few more and tells her what they're all called.

She's really curious about all the plants and mosses and insects and animals too, but she understands that Pep likes mushrooms best.

Pep didn't actually specialize in mushrooms till university so he knows plenty about plants and mosses, and some about insects and animals.

This is a lovely way to spend the day. She investigates interesting rocks as they go, but deems none of them pretty enough to be hers.

Sunwind is still in considerable pain from the radiation cleanse but can, like, think and move around now so if someone could email the studios he was working with that would be nice.

Miamoto does this.

The fight studio doesn't feel like rescuing the concept now that none of Sunwind's would-be costars are available. If he can scare up replacements maybe they can re-work it but they're not optimistic.

The feature film studio has actually been looking into having their script idea animated but could pivot back to live action if he's clean now and there's no other nasty surprises. Meksi quit her internship, though, they'd have to get him a different assistant.

He might be able to round up some other people but they wouldn't be as good at it as the ones he chose at first.

He definitely did the radiation thing. They can ask all these blues and yellows. It sucked. He doesn't think there's any other nasty surprises but he didn't see the first one coming, so who knows really? He'd never eat waste and has never even seen a red, those being the other two flavors of this exact problem. Also, dang, he liked Meksi.

Well, Meksi was very upset and had another opportunity lined up so she's working for a different studio now. They can find him someone else to replace her and anyone else who can't stand it even post-cleaning.

It's not his fault. He would have done the cleaning thing before if anyone realized he was supposed to.

Anyway, he's fine with all new people if the director and choreographer - the one from that one movie with the rogue planet - are the same as before.

They don't say "well you could have just NOT EATEN PEOPLE" because they have any sense of how to make a business deal.

The director will stay on and the choreographer will if they pay more.

So should he fly to the studio again or what? He remembers where it is relative to here.

Yeah, he can come back.

He does so and lands gracefully in that one loading dock.

His new assistant is a different purple. "Hello. I'm Taku Temnin."

Hello! I am Sunwind and I'm excited to be back! Did they give you my email account?

"They did, yeah, and I got forwards of your correspondence with Meksi too. Do you need anything right now?"
