He makes a little video camera and a little note informing his peal of proceedings. "Okay. We've got about two hundred worlds and have never noticed loss of synchronization between them; when I took Pen out to hunt for worlds we were always gone for as long as Linyabel expected from Nexus. One theory is that somehow adjacent worlds are sort of like the worldsheafs you're used to, another is that the time slippage happens between worlds that are very distant and all of yours are farther-flung than any of ours, another is that we somehow sync with worldleaping anchors even though they don't involve a person constantly talking between parts, are there other explanations and how do I test them?"

"...Well, it's possible I could tell by looking, if you want to open a door to your world for me," suggests Glass.

"I can just - do that?"

"Milliways should open to your homeworld."

He bounds over to the door and opens it.

The Bell follows him out of the Belltower and through the backyard and into the bar.

Oh look it's Valinor.

"Huh," says the Bell.

"I don't live here, they kicked out Boots so I invented an interdimensional teleport and found us a world with no gods -" it's your prince Fëanáro, can someone please come hold this door, it's urgent -

"If you moved out you might be able to get your new world, too, some people can do that. Or Shell Bell can try it."

"I mean, it's only one hop, but okay -" he closes the door, tells it that he wants to see Boots, opens it again -

- and it opens onto her office and she startles halfway out of her chair - "Fëanáro!"

"Hey! Were you getting all my updates? We found the other peal, they're nice, I'm gonna stay in Nexus for a bit to fix all the cryopreserved people - unless Cam wants to help -"

"Cam was sending installments every day, the last was hours ago - is that a Milliways door - hi, I'm Boots," she adds belatedly to the Bell behind Fëanáro.

"Glass," says, apparently, Glass. "This is a Milliways door, yes. Have a Janegem." Toss.

"And come here so I can hug you without losing the door!"

"It'd be better to get someone native to the world to hold the door just to be sure," Glass says quickly.

And T'Mir appears presently to hold the door -

- and Boots scoops Fëanáro right up and hugs him.

Hugs. Hugs. Sobbing. Wing-hugs. "I missed you so so so much."

"I missed you too." Squeeze. "Thank you for writing."

"If I were a real demon I could've gotten letters back - oh, I haven't explained anything to the new peal yet, they don't have demons so Pen couldn't write them letters..."

"I can - interact with their onboarding protocol and report back," suggests T'Mir.

"Thanks."

Hugs hugs hugs. "I'm sorry - were you mad at me -"

"Of course not -"

(T'Mir is ushered into Milliways; the ansible glints on Boots's desk.)

And he will take a full ten seconds more of hugs before - "okay so I think we can figure out lots more multiverse stuff now, the other peal has more transferrable magic -"
