"Hi, I uh, know we got off on the wrong foot but I was wondering if I could trade you something for your world's technology - assuming it's non-magical in nature."

"The technology is nonmagical in nature though if you want a computer like this one it requires brain surgery that's really a lot safer and tidier to have done magically."

"You... had brain surgery to install a person in your head?"

Why is the world always like this.

"The computer is not a person, it's a device. And it's mostly here," he waggles it in the air, "I just control it and encrypt it with a smaller item in my head."

"Huh, does it do anything besides books?"

"It does lots of things. Uh, perhaps you could go on in any more detail about the demon situation in your universe and why you felt throwing things at me was an appropriate response to that situation, so I can calibrate at all before attempting to give you a tech uplift."

"Largely priors - very few magical entities I've encountered have been safe and even fewer have been well intentioned. I've never actually met a demon in my universe and was not confident they existed, but the myths surrounding them feature quite a lot of torture and fire and I'd strongly expect the reality to be at least as bad as the myth."

"Well. I can't actually vouch for the demons in your world if you have any, but it's, like, rude, to attack people who are just sitting there, in most situations. What magical entities have you got out by you?"

"Ghouls, mi-go, drowned, ghosts, young things, and a bunch more? Um. I'm sorry for attacking you but I think if this were my world I could plausibly be dead or worse if I hadn't tried something."

"Well, that sounds really racist to me but maybe it's rational and maybe being racist isn't even unfashionable in your place and time."

"A lot of people are racist in my world but they are wrong about that. People are also probably too anti-magic but it's a much harder call."

"You sound to me like you're speaking English but this place has a translation effect, are you actually?"

"Yep."

"From planet Earth?"

"Yeah."

"What year is it?"

"1933."

"Wow, okay. Congratulations on noticing racism is bad I guess. I wonder if you're in a position to avert World War II."

"I might be - any particularly identifiable cause?"

"The rise of fascism in Germany, which if you're an English speaker may not be remotely in your power to affect but maybe you could go assassinate Hitler."

"I can probably sway public opinion some - I own a newspaper - but I'm not sure how helpful that would be. I could... maybe assassinate Hitler - I'm not entirely certain how dangerous the sorcerers who are backing him are."

"He didn't have those in my world so I could not begin to tell you."

"How bad is the war?"

"Civilian deaths fifty to fifty five million, military casualties upwards of twenty."
