"You don't have to let them in if they can't convince you of their benign nature. But this might be one reason to teach me the ritual so you never have to be in the same universe with them at all."

"Are they likely to notice if my world is using space elves as intermediate steps in the resurrection ritual?"

"They might. I don't think they will be able to interfere from a world away, and we only need a hundred volunteers, and I haven't been getting the impression that they needed to wake up at any point in the process so there's no worry about getting their memories back to their mainline instances, right?"

"Their bodies need to take actions - I enchant human bodies to do that without waking and if elf bodies are broadly similar I wouldn't expect an issue?"

"You saw Alassëo. They're made of bones and meat and stuff."

"Then I expect the spell will work fine." 

"That's good, I imagine it'd be very tedious being resurrected and sacrificed a bunch of times."

Lucien can provide further specifics about the dimensions and necessities of the resurrection space they'd want - they'll need enough space to build what amounts to a small indoor swimming pool.

"Why the - depth? Is it going to be filled with something that'd spread out too much on the floor?"

"You need the blood to be a few feet deep for the tentacles to unfurl properly. I guess if you can create blood from nothing we don't need the tentacles to refresh it for multiple uses, but we'd need some way to remove the blood after each ritual."

"Tentacles, wow. I can create blood from nothing but draining it would be a production."

"Can we build piping out the front door? We'd need to replace the blood eventually even if we do go the tentacles route."

"Where are we dumping it exactly, even if we have pipes to do it with?"

"I... can try to work out something on the other side of my door in Istanbul? It is rather a lot of blood and people are going to notice if we dump it all into the sewer system, not to mention that that might be hazardous to people's health somehow."

"I don't know that it'd hurt people but it might do something wild to algae or fish or whatever and, yeah, the sewer-adjacent folks will notice."

"I could buy a slaughterhouse and launder the blood through that? Or try figuring out a permanently refreshable blood set-up. Assuming that millieays doesn't have access to some sort of bulk waste disposal service?" That last bit is directed at the Bar.

Not exactly; things tend to get out of the way over time but not to the point where it would be convenient to have blood flowing through the halls. Let alone into the lake; there's a giant squid living there and he might object.

"Is running a pipe out through the front door doable?"

The door generally needs to be held by a person.

"We could open it and let the excess blood drain out once it's no longer usable, and then close it? Plausibly every hundred rituals or so if we can get the right sort of tentacle."

"What exactly is the function of these tentacles?"

"Refreshing the blood so it can be used multiple times."

"...right, but, what is the property of the blood that the tentacle alters and how does a tentacle do that."

"Uh, I might be bad at explaining this - I havn't really had the chance to talk about the details of the ritual with anyone I trusted with it before."

Lucien collects his thoughts.

"So the original resurrection spells requires each sacrifice contribute three times the amount of blood in a human body, typically meaning you had to bleed them several times and wait months for their blood to regenerate in-between bleedings. But there was a note in one of the versions of the rituals that indicated you could substitute in the blood of enough relatives of the sacrifice, with more blood the more distant the relative, and I eventually figured out that with a really really large amount of animal blood you could get it to work. But the fact that it's not their blood produces some byproducts - I'm not really sure what - that degrade the efficiency really badly after each use requiring even more blood. So I have a different spell that allows tentacles to sort of consume and excrete blood that turns out to work as a filter for removing the byproducts. Mostly filter - it still fails after enough uses."

"...so, how much will you need if it is their blood?"
