"Specialization is mostly for things like angels with medical training, daeva are largely interchangeable otherwise. Around the time period I was learning, there were lists of medical angels available on the Internet, and you could target one of those specifically if you had the need. Daeva can and do negotiate for what they'd like to receive, and can refuse to make a deal if they want to perform the task. If something was going to keep me away for years such that I'd miss concordances, I wouldn't do it, but for shorter time scales there's not much I'd be missing out on in Fairyland."

"But you'd kind of have to structure your life around taking summonses."

"Yes, and that's a trade-off I am willing to make. Not everyone is, of course, but taking a summons is a voluntary action."

"That's good at least."

"Yes. Do you want to learn more about summoning or shall we investigate magic?"

"I have to break into the school library to get the magic books and prefer to do that after dark, so more summoning, please."

Bella takes to it like a natural. She does need to break for lunch at one point.

Ah, biological requirements. Ellie can accommodate this need.

"You wanted coffee, right?"

"That is correct."

"Any more specific preferences than that?"

"Not really."

"Okay, I will bring you something that unambiguously qualifies as coffee." And off she goes.

She comes back later with a large paper cup of black coffee, and a creamer and a sugar packet in case Ellie wants those.

Ellie will accept them graciously, and then add both creamer and sugar before she drinks.

"Thank you."

"No problem. So, since summoning does reliably work here is it a good idea for you to go home and come back with history books for me to look through...? I'd have the advantage that as long as you got anything from the right time period it's more recent for me than you."

"That would probably be a more high-leverage use of my time while you are asleep."

"Yeah, fair enough. This evening I can draw out a circle for you incomplete and you can check it over and then go home overnight and I'll call you back in the morning?"

"Yes, that sounds reasonable."

"The basics of summoning itself are relatively simple. Most formal courses include digressions about the history of the practice and background information about the daeva planes and cultures. And the essentials are repeated over a longer span of time to ensure all students have a firm grasp on them."

"So this is like Honors Summoning Boot Camp or something."

"Along those lines, yes."
