"...That can get pretty complicated depending upon the object, but generally, it will refuse to function for anyone but the bond-ee, and seriously resist being parted from them."

"I expect she'll be interested in learning to do it, then, yes ma'am."

"I'll see what we can do.  It should be possible to work out something that won't necessarily require her to learn all of a rather fiddly specialty magic first, as an option."

"Thank you ma'am. I don't expect her to consider it particularly urgent, especially while she's recovering."

Alicia nods.

"...I'm going to get back to working on what I was working on, unless there's something else you wanted to talk about or ask?"

"Did you want to come out and show us how to use the magical charger at some point, ma'am?"

"- oh - uh, sorry about that, I tried to make it self-explanatory - I'll just text you the instructions real quick - better to have them in writing -"

The device is pretty dang simple.  There's an on/off switch connected to an enchantment that extends the contacts, and a "how much power" slider.  That's it.

"Thank you, ma'am. Though for future reference I keep records of my entire sensorium by default and for audio I'm able to play it back for others."

"I'm also better at things like 'using complete sentences' in writing.  And - well, if and as Deskyl learns Villarosan Common, something both of you can search in a pinch is probably better, too, though that's...stretching."

"It's a reasonable point but seems unlikely to come up in this case, yes ma'am. That was the only thing I wanted to ask you, I'll let you get back to your work."

She nods.  "I probably have a few references that would be more helpful about enchanting, and that's what I'm going to be working on.  Probably.  Who knows what my brain will latch on to next.  So if you'd like, I wouldn't mind if you were present while I did the theory work for whatever I'm doing."

"Yes ma'am." She's nearing the end of this stack of books but she did see another stack's worth of likely-looking ones.

She heads towards the guest wing, where her room is, without further ado.  DZ following or not following is DZ's decision.

That's also fine, she doesn't need to check on Deskyl for three hours and she has this whole stack of books she just scanned to read through if Her Highness doesn't want to talk while she works. She follows.

"Do you mind if I talk at you while I think?  The human brain is a piece of fucking work and it doesn't like to think properly unless it can think it's talking to someone."

"That's fine with me, ma'am."

"Right.

"Let's see.  I've got magic theory to try and figure out how your thing works and if and how its inverse should, I've got figuring out how healing you should work, and I have 'how do I lightsaber'.  ...Right now, I'm thinking I should probably get 'how do I lightsaber' off my darn brain, despite the importance of the other things, because this one is much more distracting.  And it should be pretty simple, insofar as any two-axis project is..."

"...I don't think that an actual baryonic-matter plasma blade is the way to go here, as much as it would be incredibly cool - as much as I even do know some of how it can be done, already, for some values of physics - disregarding the way that I haven't the slightest clue how your containment works and that, really, having Deskyl make me a lightsaber is cheating, I kind of feel like it needs to be made my way, to be, y'know, my lightsaber, which means - doing it with magic."

"It's kind of funny that this is probably going to be a Light/Chaos piece.  You have, name-wise, Light, which is bad for Sith, and Chaos, which is bad for Jedi - though, uh, really, 'chaos' magic is more like 'change things' magic.  It's just that...well.  Changing things is hard when you really want them to end up being incredibly similar, and not - 'spontaneously manifests a blue whale and a pot of tulips'.  Unless you're cheating.  Which I am shamelessly going to do because that's how this works.  If that makes sense.

"...Each prime magic interacts with each other prime, in relatively specific ways.  In this case, Light is our tool of choice for yoking change to a singular purpose - but the question is how we frame that."

...Right.  Time to just start drafting things.  She doesn't exactly have a holotank set up in her quarters, but... she totally has a holotank set up in her quarters.  "I should work out the form factor, first, though.  Figure out what I even have room for.  Let's see..."

"...Ooh.  Yeah, I think I could work with..."

"...Ooh, yes, definitely that, actually."

"I hadn't immediately been thinking of Light-Order, but it would work as a carrier for a containment field.  On its own I'm not sure how well that would...Oh, but then...hmm.  That could get...interesting.  Anyway.  I know I'm going to need a light crystal and a nether tap...  Hm.  Possibly two, actually, with the containment and the beam...  Or I could actually pivot the design to exploit the concentration of anything that passes through the waveguide...  Er.  Waveguide, blade-forming doohickey, one of those things.  Words.  ...Where was I - ah, right.  ...Hmm.  Maybe if...  -- because I can't just leave all that energy lying around where it might get exploded..."

She pinches something that looks like anti-light into the diagram, looks at it for a moment, and shakes her head, hitting the undo trigger.  "No, I think maybe it should be a nether tap even so.  There's enough flux that it's not like I really need to worry about conservation issues..."

"...What this project needs, though, to make it - more than a hilarious amount of overkill, where a regular sword would suffice - is some sort of focus element.  Because I'm not actually a precognitive.  But I bet I could make something that was.  And that starts getting into the composite magics..."

"...Hmm.  But which angle?  Or...

"It would have to be Decay, I think.  Spirit just doesn't have enough of the right sort of...

"...Bloody hell, there goes the risk of explosions again, though.  Have you seen the relevant creation myth?  Because - the Void/Light interaction is said to have created the universe, and the way it tends to interact explosively...  I could filter it away behind Order if I were just using it as a battery, but not if I want to do it like this.  Even though Light/Decay isn't Light/Void, it's still...Hmm.  Not a risk I want to take."

"...Could maybe just rework the whole structure, though...  Damn it, why do I keep having random ideas.  I have too many.  ...But really, where would I find half-decent precognition..."

"Would it help to look at how master Deskyl's precognition works, ma'am?"

"...I wouldn't rule it out but I don't think it would be a good idea to ask that of her now.  But the real problem is that I don't have much skill with Spirit, which is - closely analogous here.  So hm, what could I do..."

"...hm.  Maybe the trick I need is already there, and it's just the data processing..."

"...Yeah, I could make that work.  I could make that work.  Though hardening it against...  Or maybe -"

"...Hm.  Hmm.

"Hmmmmmmmmm," she says, eliding over the Classified Things In The Basement.

"But then how would I assemble that...?  How would I make it part of the whole underlying construction...?  It would kind of need to be..."

"...I mean, this is all kind of eliding over my present specialty, but I have, I think, too much of the wrong ideas to conjure something that isn't needlessly overspecified from the Void..."

"...I have thought about just developing that into a divination technique for myself before, though.  I could still."

"Notwithstanding the paradoxes."

"Or perhaps very definitely withstanding them.  They'd be trouble, that's for sure..."

She starts pacing.  "...The Force is fucking cheating, is the thing, because ...it's not actually acausal information gain --!

"...But what do I do with that?

"Hold the entire fucking universe in the palm of my hand?  I'm not Buddha.

"But then, the Light is one with the universe, that's part of its pState...  ...Actually, I have no idea whether that's the right name for its properties in that paradigm but it arose from Not so it may as well be..."  (Notably, in exactly none of the texts present in the manor's library is that particular allegedly-paradigmatic identifier used, despite the thorough glossaries.)

"...Hm."

"Hm."

"And time is a construct of order, anyway..."

"...Okay.  I think I can work with that."
