"How long are you going to need to get it working?"

A slight shrug. "Two days to a week? Depending on how reckless we are willing to be with testing."

"At the very least I can afford to be reckless six times a day."

Glance at Dara and Treven. "So are we sure enough of this to tell the visiting clerics?"

"...I do not think I would object, unless there is some kind of risk in telling them that I am failing to think of."

Vanyel glances at Blai and Seldan.

Eggs and bread and a scoop of this vegetable thing and that fruit salad and two of these little cheese pastries and - :Telling them about the diamond prophecy? Well, they won't have an opportunity to go short the diamond market until someone from here brings them back to Golarion, but obviously you can't refuse to do it solely on that basis so if you don't want them to you'll need to only tell them about it conditionally:

:That does seem like the main potential downside: Seldan agrees. :I don't think there's any risk that the specific people we hired are going to, you know, take that information and decide to kidnap Vanyel and Leareth to get the diamond supply for themselves. - what's the upside of telling them before we actually have the spell and a pile of diamonds?:

Shrug. :The obvious one is that I think we - well, realistically, Leareth's organization - may want to sell the diamonds they've already purchased at Velgarth prices, on the grounds that we're not expecting that to be a limited resource next week, and - that's just much harder to do entirely on our own but I feel somewhat uncomfortable getting help from the Abadaran clerics while concealing why, it seems - like not operating in good faith with them.: What if Abadar was mad! Joshel's main source of trustworthy information on what Abadar does and doesn't approve of is...the Abadaran clerics...and he's not sure how to get advice on the situation as a pure hypothetical.

:Seems reasonable to negotiate some kind of conditions on what they can use the information for?: Another glance at Leareth.

:I think that ought to be negotiated beforehand, yes.: Leareth is definitely suffering from not feeling at all up to date or oriented to the situation and would very badly like to touch bases with Nayoki before Joshel barrels ahead with some kind of decision. :I think it is not urgent on the level of candlemarks?:

Nnnno but, see, it's just very exciting and maybe on some level Joshel just wants to TELL PEOPLE who are from Golarion and really understand how important this is - and aren't too exhausted from the weeks of horrible emergency to have feelings - and see them be excited too.

:Would you like me to ask an Abadaran for instructions on how to accept confidential information? It's something I should know anyway and don't, so it won't leak much:

:Oh, like, as a hypothetical in case you were to get asked to keep something confidential and you're not sure what the policy is? That seems reasonable, I can't think how it could possibly leak any information about our diamond-making spell specifically.: Though he glances at Leareth, just in case he's somehow failing to be adequately paranoid.

Leareth also can't see why this would be a bad idea by Valdemar's priorities, and it doesn't seem likely to be high-stakes enough to merit more paranoia aimed at that in particular.

(Ultimately, Leareth suspects that none of the stakes here for dealing with the Abadarans are very high, assuming that they take for granted that Blai's knowledge about Abadarans is more or less accurate and they can be trusted to be Lawful - which Valdemar is certainly taking for granted, and nothing seems to have gone disastrously wrong yet, and it does seem like Joshel being a suitable cleric of Abadar is further information on Abadar's properties. ...There are plenty of future decisions with high stakes, to be clear, because not all of the actors in Golarion are friendly, and anyone who could, for example, kidnap and mind-control Vanyel once he has the spell would stand to profit from it enormously. But it feels like the main thing at stake around exactly how much confidentiality Joshel negotiates for is whether Valdemar versus the Abadarans themselves get to reap more of the profits to be made before the Golarion diamond market stabilizes again, and - in the long run, either way, it's still an immeasurably better outcome than anything he could have imagined a couple of months ago.

To be clear, Leareth wants to talk to Nayoki about the whole situation, in private, because he feels spectacularly disoriented, but - he suspects that's still where he's going to land afterward.)

He nods to Joshel.

:Then I think that's a great idea: Dara says briskly. :Thank you, Blai. ...Joshel, hadn't you been going to talk to Leareth and Nayoki about the, er, terms of the alliance for resource sharing? Seems like this morning is a good time.:

That is probably a good idea to hit before they go tell people from another world, even under some kind of confidentiality agreement.

:Leareth, is this morning a good time.:

It seems like it will have to be. (Well, apart from the thing where Leareth has very little idea of what the de facto resource sharing has actually been, so far, but Nayoki can cover that.)

Leareth nods.

The going and asking an Abadaran thing is not urgent, right, Blai has this fruit salad and these eggs and -

It’s definitely not urgent enough that Blai needs to interrupt his breakfast. Joshel is just really excited, understandably, because it’s good news, but he really has no excuse to be this impatient, he needs to have a meeting with Nayoki and Leareth before it makes sense for him to talk to the Abadarans with whatever confidentiality agreement, and Nayoki isn’t even in Haven yet.

Vanyel has no idea if he’s actually…required for anything…before the point when they actually start testing the spell, but in the absence of conflicting obligations he’s inclined to stick by Leareth. It seems like something a friend ought to do and he’s probably the only one in this situation who has the capacity to relate to Leareth as a friend and not just a critical source of mage-research and personnel.

He’s also tucking into the food with quite a lot of urgency.

Leareth isn’t actually all that hungry, having spend the intervening time dead rather than horribly ill. He eats anyway, because it seems like a good idea in general.

Blai attempts to mentally compose a request for confidentiality lessons that is neither misleading nor information-leaky in and of itself. It is something he ought to know and doesn't, and that an Abadaran can teach him perhaps just as well as a properly catechized Iomedaean, and this would have been sufficient reason to ask if he'd thought of it without this prompt... what if they want money for the lesson, it's probably not within the scope of their presently operative retainer...

Seldan thinks it would be super reasonable for the Heralds to chip in for this! They're going to be benefiting from it as a group, they didn't actually cover the retainer from Valdemar's government funds and should be able to afford it, and also Blai arguably is a Herald, albeit not in a way they want to put too much weight on since he's not subject to the usual obligations and isn't expecting to stay in Valdemar. Point is just, 'they might want money' seems like a very solvable problem here.

The Heralds present sit around and eat a leisurely breakfast; one gets the sense they haven't had much opportunity to properly sit down and enjoy a meal in quite a long time. The generous spread of food is eventually thoroughly demolished.
