:- What, you can do that? Out of what?: Come to think of it, Vanyel doesn't have the slightest idea what diamonds are made of, when he asks himself the question he just gets 'they're made of diamond, obviously' but if he's making one it must be starting from something else– oh, of course, Leareth would know.

"Leareth, Blai says that in the next week you're going to invent a technique to - make - a diamond? How would that work, what are diamonds made from -?"

Leareth's mind is not moving incredibly fast, but it's - not, actually, a complicated chain of thought.

"...They are made of the same material as the soot left after very thorough burning of wood, just - differently arranged. Very differently. They form in the earth under vast pressure, but - oh - I think I understand broadly how - no one could do it but you, Vanyel, but you certainly have the power and you ought with practice and a good enough technique have the finesse..."

Leareth is speaking slowly and tripping over his words a bit even so but he's happy and Vanyel hadn't begun to realize how desperate he was to see that.

He relays that to Blai in Mindspeech. :Leareth agrees it's possible, and it makes sense that I could do it - can I look, were there any details you caught of the working -?: he reaches to just try to catch what's still there in Blai's surface thoughts.

THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE INFINITE DIAMONDS FOREVER!!!!!

(Okay, not 'infinite', that looked exhausting for Vanyel in the vision and apparently it's all going to be on him, but - even if it's exhausting, with the right support he ought to be able to cast a strenuous spell a dozen times a day - and even if he needed a Restoration after a dozen to keep going, that would be worth it, right, to get a second dozen diamonds, and the one Blai saw looked pretty enormous, you could probably shave enough off it for a few Restorations and still leave it big enough for the most powerful diamond-requiring spells...)

...The Abadarans are going to lose their minds when they learn about this, aren't they, it's going to be so adorable. INFINITE!!! DIAMONDS!!!! Seldan is almost bursting with the smugness of it, even if technically his Herald (the BEST Herald) did not personally invent or cast the spell and is just responsible for them learning that it's going to work up to a week earlier than they would have otherwise...

Blai will happily recite what he recalls about the placement of the quartzes and wire and bowl and magic.

Unfortunately it's a long way from immediately obvious to Vanyel what the setup means!

He takes detailed notes anyway. Maybe it'll be instantly obvious to Leareth once he's functional again tomorrow and this will save them days of research, but - really, the exciting news here is that it's possible, and having it tomorrow or in a week won't make a huge difference.

It's also not obvious to Leareth! All he can produce, staring at it, is the thought that a spell that can sustain the necessary pressure and temperature without exploding is a genuinely hard design problem and that testing it would probably involve. Explosions. So they should plan for that.

Isn't it wonderful that they have SIXTEEN CLERICS available (counting Joshel and Vanyel himself and the visitors, not counting Karis because who knows where she is right now) for channels! They can explode so many test spells and everyone will be fine!

Leareth looks at Blai, a little uncertainly. :...If there are plans we should be adjusting because of this information, and it - would be better sooner - I am not sure what they are.:

:I'm not sure quite what you mean:

That was already kind of a lot of effort to get into words and now Leareth is kind of not sure what to do, and also this is upsetting!

(Leareth doesn't look obviously upset. He just holds very still.)

Oh nooo poor Leareth. Time to attempt translation.

:I - think he means, have we been setting priorities in a way that would be really stupid if next week I can make diamonds, and is there anything tonight that's - irreversible -? I don't...think...so? I guess we shouldn't worry about the cost in diamond dust to get everyone all the Restorations they can benefit from, but I think we've been just as limited on spell slots - for Gentle Reposes too, we're already doing as many as we possibly can - I guess this makes it a better idea for Leareth's organization to sell the diamonds we have now in Golarion, if the price is going to drop and we can get more later? I can talk to Joshel. ...I guess we should tell Leareth's people they can stop trying to frantically buy fifty more diamonds from all over the continent, and use the gold for something else? But I think nothing is a disaster if it gets decided tomorrow?:

:That all sounds right to me:

:And - we probably shouldn't be deciding anything irreversible on the basis that we definitely have this?: Vanyel adds. :Just in case, I don't know, we somehow misinterpreted what was in the vision and it wasn't a diamond, or wasn't the right kind -:

Seldan thinks that the Minor Prophecy spell flagging this as the most important thing is at least strongly suggestive they're not misinterpreting it. Surely if it wasn't going to work, then discovering it wasn't going to work would be a more important event than the initial "success", and Blai would have seen them hopefully trying to use it for a Raise Dead and failing! They would have to posit something weird like Leareth successfully inventing the spell in exactly a week and not managing to test the diamond produced until the next day? Or that the Velgarth gods have now learned to subvert the Minor Prophecy spell and wanted to subvert it in this specific way.

That being said, fair enough, it's not guaranteed yet and they should not, like, sign a binding contract with the Abadarans to sell them a thousand diamonds next year. But it's enough to go on that Seldan personally would be inclined to tell people, with the appropriate caveat that it was learned via a prophecy spell that doesn't work in Golarion anymore but that has so far been very reliable for them. It's also a pretty great endorsement for getting more of the other clerics to prepare Minor Prophecy tomorrow and try to check for other future news, good and bad, that might be similarly important.

Minor Prophecy certainly has decreasing marginal utility but, yes, the horse conspiracy can spread this around and if there are any clerics who happen to speak Taldane still in Haven Blai can talk to them.

Seldan has not thoroughly verified this in the ten minutes it took them to get from the Gate-site to the House of Healing, but he thinks there might not be...any...clerics other than Vanyel still in Haven right now.

Maybe it's time to really put his Mindspeech range to the test! Sumpost is...a long way, definitely over three hundred miles, maybe closer to four hundred. Seldan is absolutely not volunteering to try for that routinely. But when Joshel was in Norflank - a bit further north from Sumpost - Seldan was able to reach him from Devin, which isn't that much further in range, and it was solidly effortful but it wasn't exhausting. Joshel himself has a pretty solid range, maybe a hundred and fifty miles, and has a Companion who can boost him, so once Seldan gets his or Kimbry's attention at all, the pair of them can do quite a lot of the work. And it's a very short conversation, and a very exceptional circumstance, and it's pretty flat with no terrain in the way, and - all right, fine, maybe he just sliiightly wants to show off.

Reach reach reach reaaaaaach reachreachreach....

:Joshel?:

Joshel was not expecting that. He's still up, though, and expects to be for candlemarks. Wait, but that doesn't feel like it's coming from Devin - and wasn't Seldan heading back to Haven and then going off-duty for the night...

:Seldan? Is something wrong?:

:No! Minor Prophecy showed Leareth and Vanyel inventing a spell to MAKE GIGANTIC DIAMONDS.:

:Obviously not confirmed but Leareth thought it made sense.:

:Has to be Vanyel casting it, that's a limitation, but if they pull it off it changes everything. Thought you should know.:

It changes everything!!!!!!!!

:Does the King know?:

:I believe he's asleep. You have more context than me on whether there's a good reason to wake him before morning.:
