This far from any land, the sea is calm, with just a gentle roll as the water moves. As far as the eye can see, there is glistening blue, uninterrupted by any sign of a shore.
High above, the sun beats down from a cloudless sky.
It is peaceful.
"I just- I'd prefer to have loved and lost, y'know? To actually live. Not saying Circ and Mak don't have their reasons, they do. Just."
"I'm of the opinion that loss hurts more, not that I'd begrudge you yours. Love is a wonderful thing to have."
"Maybe," Rex agrees, a little distant. "Hey, c'mon. Let's see if anything in the medbay explodes when you poke it."
"I see you are also of a scientific mind," Anders laughs. "Sounds like a plan to me."
Most of the instruments are strange to Anders, but they aren’t difficult to figure out. If his magic can adapt to this world, he most likely won’t need them, either way.
A speaker on the wall squawks angrily. "Tana, I am not explaining to your wife why you starved. Dinner."
"If you don't mind, I'll stay here and get acquainted with the machinery? I'll be up later."
Anders focuses on familiarising himself with the machinery, beating back the feelings of homsickness.
He's left in peace to do that. There's not a massive amount of machinery in the medbay - a scanner being the major thing, and what looks like a device to assist with having to cut someone open.
Anders pokes and prods it for a while, laughing inside at what people are forced to do without magic.
Someone, somewhere, is probably getting offended and not even knowing why.
A while later, there's a tap on the door, and then Deke sticks his head in. "I come bearing food?"
Anders is elbow deep in the contraption, but looks up. "Deke! Hello, sorry, I was investigating new tech."
