"Lemme go get you one." She hops out of her chair in the otherwise pretty much featureless room 330 and lopes off.

"Thank you."

Savannah glances at him, and hugs him. To everyone (except Lorica) she hasn't moved at all.

Lorica is back a couple minutes later holding a robot that looks sort of like a large green beetle with round feet. "I made this when they were quibbling over my Tinker rating. It's not too useful, but it'll run around and you can name it and it'll come when called and you can convince it to do simple stuff - nothing better than you can get a cellphone to do, but much cuter and it'll figure out natural language most of the time. If you want it to do any fancy tricks lemme know circa Christmas when I'm bored. If it breaks email me and put the li'l bugger in my in-tray."

Panorama takes it, gently.

"Thank you," he says sincerely. He pets it with a finger.
It chirrs.

"Oh, come on, bug, I gave you an English dictionary," says Lorica to the robot.

"Hello," amends the robot.

"Aww, but the chirring was cute!"

"It can both chirr and say hello," says Panorama. "We can have compromise."

The bug chirrs again.

"My lab's in 205 if you want to say hello sometime," Lorica says. "Welcome to the Wards. If you have questions and the bureaucrats get on your nerves let me know, I'm barely more senior than you but I'm second-gen so I know some stuff."
The siblings - look at each other. Then look back at Lorica.

"Thank you," says Panorama.

"You're welcome." She trots off.

The two new wards get proper costumes to go with their cape names. They settle in. Panorama's polite but quiet, Apparition is - neither of those things.

"Psst, hey," says an invisible Apparition, knocking on the door to Lorica's lab. "You in here?"

"Yeah?" says Lorica, opening the door. She has part of her kit on, elbow to wrist, but is otherwise rocking jeans-and-t-shirt-and-helmet as usual. She's switched to a new helmet since the powers test.

"Pan's being mopey. Want to help me cheer him up?"

"I'm fresh out of adorable robots going spare. What's he need?"

"Prrrrobably someone that is also not me to talk to."

"Okay. Lemme add - two lines of code and then it can compile merrily, age-old excuse for not working for programmers everywhere -" She goes to her computer, which is custom and blue and makes peculiar noises, and types and then follows Apparition.

And off they go, to find Panorama! He is in costume, like Apparition - he's turned part of the room into part of a bookstore, and is reading what must be a book from it. It's hard to tell, under the mask, but by body language he looks a little depressed and droopy. Read. Read read read.

"Hey, Apparition thinks you need company."

"Does she? Sorry she enlisted you, I'm - okay. Mostly."

Apparition, meanwhile, says nothing and walks behind Panorama. He, of course, doesn't notice.

"It's okay, my code's compiling. What's up?" Pause. "Also, does your sister have your permission to stalk around I-presume-invisibly around you?"

"She's been doing it for years," he drawls. "I've gotten used to it by now. Were you going to go with 'boo' or 'nyah nyah nyah' this time?"

"Damn it," mutters Apparition, going visible. Not that Lorica could tell. "It was going to be 'pzoooo' this time."
