The next day, as with every day, students must attend homeroom.
"Yes and no? If I get too overwhelmed I can start to lose control. But then other things, emotions or sensation, can help me be calm. Pain helps..." she pauses, "and I think you help? I mean. I feel... calm and in control when I'm around you."
"At least that makes one of us?"
It's probably meant to be a joke, although his delivery is off.
Hug. She tucks her head into his chest. Eventually she looks up at him.
"I can show you? I heal really quickly."
"...I believe you. I don't need you to hurt yourself just to prove it, I believe you."
"You're a very special occasion."
He kisses her on the cheek.
"I think we should probably go to bed."
"I can sleep on the floor? I don't actually think you want me anywhere near your bed dressed like this."
She picks at her dirt and blood stained clothes.
"I'm not sure I have anything that fits."
He manages to scrounge up a t-shirt and sweatpants.
Juliet changes into them quickly. They do not fit well at all and she laughs quietly.
"Do I look ridiculous?"
She accepts the kiss with a smile and then sits down on his bed.
"This is not how I expected this night to go."
“I’d want people to believe me. And honestly, being part of a supernatural romance novel is one of the better things to happen to me this week.”
She laughs and lies down on her back.
"Convincing my dad to let me go to high school was the best decision ever."
She snuggles up close to him, closes her eyes and whispers back.
"Good thing I have a brilliant and dutiful boyfriend to help me."
Her brilliant and dutiful boyfriend probably agrees, but it’s hard to tell when he nods off instead of responding.
