Good reader, perhaps you have walked the streets of Westcrown, or another City, and seen the pitiful sight of Halfling slaves at market, or seen them skulk about the alleys up to their Mischief. Perhaps you have seen them put to Labor in the Manors and Estates of the Countryside.
I myself chanced to witness the absurd sight of a Halfling purchasing a Halfling slave at market, and it was upon seeing such Madness play out before me that I was struck with the gravity of the Injustice that is the Enslavement of Halflings for Labor.
A Halfling is small and weak, possessed of only the meanest physicality, and yet is brute and incurious, possessing only in the rarest specimens the power of Speech. There is no fit Labor or Toil to which a Halfling may be put; it is stupid, fat, and clumsy, and putting it to Labor only makes a Mockery of its form.
Friend reader, I can only surmise that the Enslavement of Halflings for Labor be a depredation of the VILE DIABOLISTS from whose Devilish grasp we have so lately been liberated. I say to this Enough, that this Hell-spawned Practice must be made to cease, in the name of IOMEDAE who maketh war on the Devils, especially when so many good hardworking Men and their dutiful Wives and Children find themselves short of Food to make a proper Meal.
I say rather that each Halfling be seized by the Crown, no recompense paid to the Devil-loving perpetrators of such unnatural Labor, and that Halflings be made available to good, IOMEDAE-fearing households in desperate need of Relief from Starvation, to be fattened upon Offal and unchoice Grain by the Crown until delivered for Relief, and that the vile practice of the Enslavement of this useful source of Meat for the Hungry for devilish Labor be punishable by DEATH.
