Well, Elves are definitely good for languages and this one has been very helpful so far.

Elves do start with lots of unfair disadvantages, like not being immune to mind control. They do the best with what they've got, her interlocutor supposes.

Anyway, what should she heat up?

The things to heat up are pointed out. The Dwarves are extremely grateful, and promise to work with all due haste on extending her range.

I like Dwarves, Maitimo says delightedly.

Would you like me to keep you company down here or go get started meeting whoever we're going to need to bring around?

I think I'll be okay for a bit unless they suddenly need me to heat different things.

You should be able to fetch me by thinking at me if that happens. I can stay if you'd rather, I'm just eager to get working on this.

So he waves and leaves. The Dwarves work cheerfully in his absence and are happy to escort her back when the hour is up.

What nice Dwarves. What's going on in the better-lit areas?

The Elves are happy to show her to their underground gardens to get things to eat, or back to her escort, or to Maitimo, or to a concert.

Ooh, a concert?

Yes! The Elves would be delighted to escort them to a concert. Daeron's performing.

They can go to a concert if Aleko wants. He's been very patient with all the telepathic conversation Kiri can't copy him into easily and so on.

Their escort will also attend the concert.

It's a stunning concert hall. It's a stunning concert.

Yay. Racism: does not affect musical talent.

And after the concert Maitimo wants to introduce Kiri to Luthien, the King and Queen's daughter, a stunningly pretty girl with ridiculously long hair who asks immediately if she can give Kiri a hug.

Um, did he explain the involuntary mindreading thing? Hug range is mindreading range.

He did, she says, and I felt so sorry for you, that must be an awful burden and you must need a hug!

...if it doesn't bother you, then yes, you can hug me.

So she gets a hug! Luthien is indeed thinking about how lonely it must be to read peoples' minds without meaning to. She is full of sympathy. Also curiosity about the newcomers in general and Kiri in particular.

It isn't quite that lonely. Some people don't mind, and one of them's my twin brother, and he came here with me.

I am so jealous. I would love to have a twin brother. Hi, Aleko!

Hi! Nice to meet you.
