Making Friends is Good, right?

One of Wizards' greatest strengths is their ability to share and collaborate.  A sorcerer can barely offer any tutelage to another sorcerer of the exact same bloodline.  A wizard spell, properly inscribed, is shareable with virtually any other wizard in the world.  And thus, in his rare few moments of humility and self-reflection, Fernando considered it one of this greatest weaknesses that he had managed to alienate almost all of the laundry wizards and all of the "proper" wizards in an entire county.  He despised the laundry wizards for the acceptance of mediocrity and the fully educated wizards for the way they tried to crush his own pride.  Fernando wouldn't have minded alienating them, except he occasionally had the spare money to purchase a new spell (and inks to inscribe it in his spellbook) and the few wizards he hadn't completely alienated would try to gouge him on the price for copying a spell.  And in his few rare humble moments, Fernando, acknowledged to himself that a bit of advice and a spotter on his scaffold might be nice, as far as he had gotten on his own, he still had gaps in his education self study seems to have stalled in filling.

So, in a new city for the convention, Fernando vowed to himself he would make nice with at least a few wizards.  If they were higher circle and he had to grovel and suck up, or even lower than him and required putting up with their mediocrity… well, pride is an Asmodean vice, so humility is a Good virtue, right?  And the convention is only a few... well Fernando wasn't sure exactly, hopefully not longer than a year, even as nice as the stipend was.  Ideally he would identify a wizard that looked around his own level of skill and power, enough to learn from but not so high level they demanded his groveling and keep up a nice façade for however long the convention lasted.

So Fernando casts a detect magic, and starts looking until he finds someone with just the faintest hint of a faded lingering aura (and thus hopefully not too far above or below himself).  After spotting someone, he puts on an unusually friendly demeanor (friendliness is Good right?) and introduces himself:

"A fellow wizard?  Are you here for the convention also?  It would be nice to know another wizard of my own ability to trade spells and advice with!"
