The State Department was not all that Alice had imagined. She knew it wouldn't be going into it. She knew that she'd be doing scut work to start with. She'd been warned she would be overworked and underpaid. She hadn't quite believed it though. Somehow despite all the advice and warnings she wasn't quite expecting it to be this hard. Now she stood in comfortable workout clothes with the headset in her hand. Nothing for it but to take the plunge. She pulled the headset on.
