"Definitely an outcome I would prefer to avoid," Tau agrees. "Could sound out a couple, but chances are they'll be looking for about the same." She considers. "We could do with finding some trainers to make money off," she adds thoughtfully, apparently unaware that's she's switched to the plural.

"Can you afford to lose?"

Tau snorts. "Probably not," she admits. "But gotta figure out some way of earning money."

"What makes you pay, when you lose?"

"The fact you're not close to civilisation, you're down pokemon and they could easily kill you if you refused?"

"But, would they? If someone did try to go that far, you could pay, but I doubt most have the guts."

Tau hums thoughtfully. "Risky if you're travelling alone," she says carefully. "Hard to judge people, and hard to persuade them not to kill you once they've made that decision. But potentially worth considering."

"Challenging trainers without being able to judge their strength first seems like a good way to lose."

"I'm more concerned about their blood thirstiness than strength," Tau admits. "Strength...that again can be hard to judge. But not impossible. At least. Not if you don't mind stalking people a little bit."

"I do have some practice with that."

Tau laughs a little. "You're dreadful," she teases lightly, leading the way towards one of the houses indicating they are willing to board people.

After trying a couple of the houses, they find an older couple that is willing to give them not only a safe space to stay for the night, but a hot meal that evening. In exchange they just want a few chores carried out - things that it's getting hard for them to do, but two teenagers can manage with very little trouble.

The next morning, it's time to collect their pokemon.

"Should I name it?" Ryou asks, staring at the pokeball skeptically.

"It was just the done thing around our way," Tau said. "For us it was easier seeing as there were a fair few duplicates. A lot of wingulls and stuff like that. Entirely up to you if you do. Some people think they respond better if you do name them."

"I don't have any ideas."

Tau is silent for a moment. "Was that a decision not to or a request for suggestions?"

She shrugs.

"If you have any?"

"Well, there's the obvious 'Ziggy'," she says, with mild disdain for it. "It was female wasn't it?" She hums for a second. "Well, Pen, Dara, Erica, Niamh if you want more human names. Or you could go for something less human. Growls, Sneak, Thief. Depends on what you feel like?"

"Pen perhaps. Thank you."

"You're welcome," she says, smiling. She's silent for a moment, "Well, you're a pokemon owner now. You got a plan?"

"Become stronger, much stronger."

"...Well. That was a given. Isn't that what we're all doing? I more meant where were you intending to go?"

"I don't know."

Tau gives a slight chuckle. "Not really helpful that." She thinks for a moment. "You probably want to head further from the main cities. You get more powerful pokemon out there. Both for training your own against and catching to bolster your strength."

"I don't have a death wish. I would need to be stronger, or..."

She gives Tau a considering look.
