Azry fixes Junia with an incredulous look. "...because Ferelden's mail service is working just fine right now."

"Find a trusted person and send them. I got into Ferelden just fine, is it different getting out?"

"The only people I trust are in this camp right now, and I cannot spare a single one."

azry lets a smile crack her features. "Besides, if I send Citali I'd more likely to hear of a massacre than help on the way."

"That's one of the Dalish elves from before?"

"Ahhh, so you've met Dalish elves before? I hope they survived the encounter."

Azry looks over to Citali, tossing in her sleep, and Isi, standing not too far from her, brows furrowed as he kept watch.

"They're brother and sister. Isi returned to his clan to find his husband slaughtered by darkspawn and Citali barely clinging to life. He wanted revenge, and she was his price. I feel rather lucky they're both incredible warriors."

"I met a clan in the Free Marches. They helped us, gave us safe passage through their lands. I don't think they knew what to make of us, a Tevinter Mage and a Qunari travelling together and not trying to kill each other."

"In truth, I hardly know what to make of it. How does such an odd couple begin travelling together?"

"I was on the run from bounty hunters, literally stumbled into him and we've been together ever since." She doesn't mention the fact that the rest of his squad took exception to it, but.

"Except for now. You've been separated. What happened?"

"The Hunters were getting too close, so we made the decision to split up. He was supposed to lead them away from me and then we'd meet up later when he'd lost them," she makes a face, "obviously at the time I didn't know they had my blood."

"Yeah, that would make things difficult," Azry says with a smile. She looks over her shoulder at the smouldering bodies of the Templars. "Though not so much an issue anymore."

Azry pauses, pursing her lips in thought. There's a battle in her head, between what she was brought up to believe and what she knows.

"What you did, holding them, was terrifying. Useful, yes, but terrifying. I have to know, Junia, would you use that against us?"

"I do it to protect myself and the ones I love. So unless you're planning on trying to kill me or try hand me over to the Templars? No, definitely not."

"Oh, you're one of mine, now. They'll have to pry you from my cold, dead hands."

"What exactly does that mean for me? What are you plans for this?" She gestures at the blighted land.

Azry pauses. She's not sure how to answer Junia straight away. If she's honest with herself, she's asked the very same question.

"Well. At the moment it's more abstract. All I know is only a Grey Warden can end the blight, and that means getting to the Archdemon. We get to it, this is over. Unfortunately, the only way to do that is track the horde. Makes our job messy and dangerous."

Hm. "I've read that Archdemons live underground, does it never come up to the surface?"

Azry's heart clenches. She can remember clearly the few times she's seen it in person, soaring over heard or roaring from the middle of the horde.

"Oh, it has. And every time it appears more darkspawn follow it. We've been trying, Maker knows we have, but we've never gotten close enough. If we had more Wardens, or just more help, maybe we could get close enough. But until that happens, all we can do is hope it lands somewhere unprotected."

"What of the Ferelden Army? I've heard rumours of a new King as well, surely he would help."

"Ah, yes. King Loghain. What a fucking hero." Azry can't help but be bitter. Would she have still run away from ostagar if she knew? She doesn't know. However, the man who essentially doomed Ferelden is not high on her fan list.

"His concern is Denerim. Never mind that bannorns are falling left right and centre. Highever was the most recent to go. Redcliffe probably isn't far behind. Does he send help? No. Does he help the Grey Wardens? No. He still believes us responsible for the slaughter at Ostagar, even now he knows this is truly a Blight. Ten years too late."

"I heard that there is a new not-Loghain-King, actually. Well, it was in passing, but there was mention of a royal bastard inheriting the throne."

"Oh good. And does he plan on lifting the anti-Grey Warden bias?"

"Well now I am a Warden, I sure hope so."

"As do I."

Azry finishes her meager dinner, longing not for the first time for her father's cooking. She misses her family desperately, but at least she knows they're safe in the Free Marches.

"Do you want to know anything else? Any other questions?"

"Are the nightmares per usual?"

"Yes. And they don't go away. You're tapping into the hive mind of the darkspawn. It's the particularly awful part of being a Warden. Along with all the other awful parts."
